As every Hong Konger know, Kowloon City is a place famed for its Thai food. Having eaten several times at Kowloon City, my friends proposed to go to Kowloon City to eat Thai food again. They decided to bring me to a restaurant which they have tried before and have been wanting to go back again. Thai Palace Restaurant was located more at the far end of the main area, which took us around 10 minutes to walk there. Thai Palace Restaurant was located more at the far end of the main area, which took us around 10 minutes to walk there. Shop front was decorated in yellow colour, one of the national colour of Thailand. Size of the shop was quite big, able to accomodate roughly 60 people.
Their menu was very comprehensive. They sell mainly salads, appetizers, soup, meat/seafood, BBQ, rice/noodles, vegetables & drinks.
For a start, we order shrimp sashimi in thai style. A small slice of garlic was placed on top of every shrimp and there is sauce for us to dip onto it too. As i enjoyed spicy food, i enjoyed this starter alot. Shrimp was chewy and fresh, with a slight bit of sour when dip onto the sauce.
Fried baby cabbage with balancan - It was considered decent. A lot of soya sauce was added onto it, causing it to be abit salty & oily. Cabbage was quite crunchy, with a slight bit of spiciness.
Minced Pork Salad in Isaac Style with lettuce - Even though ihis was just a simple dish, i enjoy this dish the most. Lettuce was incredibly fresh and crunchy. Minced pork was very soft and tender too, rivaling those i have eaten at Thailand. We finished this dish almost in seconds.
Shark Fin soup in Thai style - The portion was quite generous, with beansprouts, mushroom & shark fin in it. Shark fin generally are tasteless, with the taste coming from the soup. It has a chewy texture. Soup base was thick & gluey. It was a good dish to go along with, especially in this kind of cold weather now.
Pad Thai with shrimp - Whenever i visited a Thai restaurant, i will definitely ordered a plate of Pad Thai to test the culinary skills of the chef. Though it look like a simple dish, it was not tasty everywhere i have tasted. Noodles were very fragrant, with both sweetness and spiciness in it. There were few ingredients like prawn, beancurd & egg in it.
