This is my second visit to Towada Sushi, my last was to Tsim Sha Tsui one. I have to say that Towada Sushi in Mikiki Mall is a huge NO for me (and my family).
Kaiden Don Trio has been one of the most loved items. However, somehow the sea urchin tastes odd and a bit like gas - an issue related to freshness or origin? I’m not sure. As for the minced tuna, it’s very plain in flavour, same for the Super Tuna Roll.
As for the Sakura Shrimp Roll, it’s also an easy pass for me - the avocado in it is unripened at all, quite hard to chew considering it comes along with salmon, huge contrast. Is it really this hard making sure the avocado has well ripened?
As for their Small Scallops, it’s very very plain in flavour and a bit smelly as well, totally not worth its price tag ($25 each piece).
I feel the sushi soy sauce they are using is one of the Achilles heels - painfully salty and lack of depth.
One last thing - the pickled ginger is also very stringy.
All in all, Towada Sushi in Mikiki no more. Very disappointing.. or am I just too picky? 🌑
