Burgeroom is tucked in a quiet corner at the Miramar Mall. Good location and decor, and I couldn't wait to try their food. I was craving for beef before sitting down but changed my mind last minute to get fish (which was a bad decision in hindsight). I ordered the portobello hoki fish burger lunch combo which included the burger plus a side of thick fries, and a drink. I thought the price was comparable for less than $150 in a prime location. I ordered the portobello hoki fish burger lunch combo which included the burger plus a side of thick fries, and a drink. I thought the price was comparable for less than $150 in a prime location.
My drink arrived first and the burger took around 8-10 minutes to arrive. At first glance, the dish was presentable and the fish filet looked humongous but the fries were a bit lackluster. I immediately touched the sesame buns and fries and they were both lukewarm. The only item that appeared freshly cooked was the fish fillet.
So the burger was stacked with lettuce, two thick cuts of tomato slices, a huge piece of fish sitting on some kind of tartar, and a small portobello. The first few bites were kinda messy as the tomatoes were juicy. I graded the burger in my mind a "C" already and the more I ate, the smell of frying oil became even more pungent. When I looked at the fish more closely I finally understood why. The breading was drenched in oil!
The worst thing though was a fish bone I accidentally swallowed and it lodged in my throat. Definitely did not expect any bones in a burger. The discomfort and pain almost made me panic. After failing to resolve the situation on my own by drinking water and chewing bread for 5 minutes, I finally asked the server to bring me vinegar. She was young and nice and helpful.... BUT if a customer was choking on a piece of fish bone, you would think the server would send over the manager to check up. That never happened. She did apologize and I told her to make sure the kitchen would be made aware of the incident.
Will I go back? Probably not. Writing this review hoping other fish burger lovers will be more careful than me.
