I've been meaning to try out this place even before it got to the top 10 list on openrice. However, I was worried that there would be a long wait for dinner. My friend and I decided to come here anyway since we could always go somewhere else if the line got too crazy. We arrived just before 7pm on a Thursday night. I've been meaning to try out this place even before it got to the top 10 list on openrice. However, I was worried that there would be a long wait for dinner. My friend and I decided to come here anyway since we could always go somewhere else if the line got too crazy. We arrived just before 7pm on a Thursday night. There was no line, and we got seated right away.

We checked out the small menu. I already knew what I wanted, their popular roast pork rice set. My friend also had something in mind, the inaniwa seaweed udon set. After we placed our order, we enjoyed their tea. We were pleasantly surprised. The tea flavor was strong in a good way. It's similar to the barley tea I had in korean restaurants, but I could be wrong since I'm no tea expert.

The roast pork rice set ($68) came with miso soup, daikon salad, and pickled ginger. The udon set ($53) came with potato salad. I first tried the potato salad and thought it wasn't anything special. I couldn't tell that the potatoes flew in from Hokkaido or maybe Hokkaido potatoes are just bland in general? I'm normally a big potato fan, so this salad really let me down. The daikon salad was also average, but the daikon was crisp.

Onto the main course, the pork slices from the rice set were tender. I used to hate anything teriyaki when I lived in the US, but I loved the rice with the teriyaki sauce underneath. Perhaps it's the fact that I haven't had it in so long. Make sure it's eaten while hot though. When I went back for my second helping, the food was already cold and not as enjoyable anymore. As for the udon, I must admit that I've had better udon elsewhere. Not to say that it wasn't good, just not great. Besides, I'm a carnivore, I need some type of meat to go with my noodles.

I wish I could say that I loved this place, but I doubt I would come back just for their roast pork rice set.
