Is the 2-tiered Kaisen Don the Next Trend?

My dad called me and my brother last Saturday and asked if we wanted to have dinner together Sunday night.  We were both free, so we said yes, and dad let us pick the restaurant.  After having a few heavy dinners during the week, I wanted something a little lighter, so I decided to choose a Japanese restaurant.  I remember godbro XO giving Chirashi a good review when it opened, so I chose this restaurant and made a reservation!The restaurant was pretty full when we arrived at 7pm, and we were se

 The restaurant was pretty full when we arrived at 7pm, and we were seated at a table close to the entrance.  The tables were quite close to each other as the restaurant is quite small.

 The place setting already provided a wooden spoon in addition to the chopsticks, so I guess most patrons order kaisen dons.

 There was a sign on the table promoting a peach wine, and the server told us there's a discount on it if we order any kaisen don.  So, I ordered the peach wine, and my dad ordered a sake.

 Peach Wine: The peach flavor in the wine was a little sweet, and I really liked it!  It's definitely a girly wine, and the alcohol flavor was a lot more tame even though the alcohol content is at 7%.

 Extreme Seafood Sashimi Donburi: The top tier was filled with luxurious sashimi of high quality. I had the scallop, salmon, and amberjack, which were all very fresh and delicious!

 The bottom tier had negitoro, egg with salmon roe, crab butter, and onsen egg.  I mixed everything together and swirled the onsen egg into it.  When I had a scoop of the comibination, the flavors exploded in my mouth!  The salmon roe gave it a slight saltiness.  The negitoro was just as fresh as the sashimi from the top tier.  And, I really liked the crab butter, which had a natural salinity.  Some might find it too fishy, but I don't mind its flavor at all, to me, it just tastes like the ocean.

 Cheese Ball (3 pcs): The cheese ball had a crispy rice batter on the outside and a gooey cheesy filling.  The cheese filling was slightly sweet, and it was oozing out as soon as I bit into the cheese ball.

 Creamy Crab Croquette: The crab croquette was slightly disappointing as the filling was not as creamy as we expected.

After having a few dishes, we were still a little hungry, so dad and I split the Tomato in Sesame Sauce, while my brother tackled another dish on his own.

 Tomato in Sesame Sauce (Cold):  The tomato was very fresh and flavorful.  The slices were just the right thickness, so the amount of sesame sauce that clung onto it was of the right balance.

 Chirashi specializes in kaisen dons, and they do a pretty good job at it!  While the 2 tiered kaisen dons might be a bit gimmicky, they offer other options that are not as overwhelming as well!  After the Dodo Cheng tv program showing the 2 tiered kaisen don, there might be a lot of viewers going to Chirashi for their foodie snaps with the latest trendy food item!
