Went to Noodle House Ippei-An randomly with 6 friends cause my friend was performing at the Miramar Shopping Center. Environment: Decent looking place and didn't feel cramped at all. Service: First thing I noticed was our waiter was actually...Japanese. I've actually never been to a ramen store in Hong Kong with a Japanese waiter so I was pretty surprised. My friend said his friend knows the owner and they employ a lot of Japanese employees. The waiter spoke decent Cantonese and the food came pretty quickly.
Here is what I ordered:
Ippei-An Fried Chicken (this was shared): This was really tasty. Really crunchy on the outside and the chicken on the inside wasn't dry at all. Nicely spiced. This is perfect finger food when watching the game
Curry Ramen (not from lunch set): I know this is a strange choice for first time at a ramen place but somehow I was really craving curry and wanted to try their ramen so I went with the curry ramen. Curry was pretty good but the star really was the ramen. Pretty good chewiness and good texture. Broth had pretty intense flavor as well. What really won me over was the lack of MSG. Usually at most noodle places I get this really dry feeling in my mouth afterwards but not here at Ippei An. Thumbs up.
Overall I thought this is definitely one of the better ramen places in Hong Kong. Considering I live in HK Island I wonder if the Causeway Bay store is just as good. Definitely will be coming back again.
