Disclaimer: I love Ootoya as a chain. Both very biased and hyper-critical.Summary: A great family restaurant chain (that doesn't taste like a chain) from Japan with an extensive but approachable menu.I've always loved a few things about Ootoya:1) Menu is always fluid and interesting but isn't confusing or threatening. You want to try everything.2) The food tastes fresh. From the ingredients to the preparation, they try very hard to make everything feel fresh. I'm satisfied if it just tastes less
Summary: A great family restaurant chain (that doesn't taste like a chain) from Japan with an extensive but approachable menu.
I've always loved a few things about Ootoya:
1) Menu is always fluid and interesting but isn't confusing or threatening. You want to try everything.
2) The food tastes fresh. From the ingredients to the preparation, they try very hard to make everything feel fresh. I'm satisfied if it just tastes less frozen.
3) It's pretty customizable. you can get different toppings for rice, different rices altogether, different sides for your meal etc. Lots of different flavors in the same meal.
4) It's pretty affordable (except for Singapore... even then it's okay)
Very happy to say that the Ootoya in CWB lives up to all my expectations. Go!
One thing: If you've never been to Ootoya, the menu is somewhat.. dull. Nothing really pops. However, I've tried a bunch of things, from meat to fish to soups to noodles and I've never been disappointed. While some dishes are a bit more subtle, they have a wonderful home-cooked flavor to them, and as i mentioned, taste fresh.
If you like simple but delicious Japanese food, I recommend Ootoyaaaaa!
