Some of us had visited Calle Ocho before and had better experiences... We came for a birthday lunch on mother's day - bad decision. Most of the party of 8 arrived within 15 minutes of the booking (1230pm), took another 30 mins to get some staff take even our drink orders, and another 20 minutes for the first round of drinks to arrive (only after a male manager arrived to help out).
An hour in, we were only served 3 of the appetisers, and the mains arrived before we were then notified that tapas were missing the pan con tomate for the day (sold out or missing an inventory shipment or something?). To make up, the female manager did comp 2 drinks for those who didn't go for free flow, and I believe we got a bit more dessert than we were otherwise going to have(?)
We didn't get desserts until 330pm, which by the time, some of the party had to leave. Also despite noting my friend's birthday in the booking, paying deposit beforehand, and reminding staff of his birthday again as we sat, I understand if the staff was too busy for a birthday song haha but maybe a candle for the birthday boy at least?
Then the bill forgot to apply my member discount as well.
Overall food quality was great as usual, but the extremely slow service and delayed notice on the tapas made it a bit tough to enjoy the experience yesterday.
For anyone who goes, I do recommend getting the patatas bravas (prefection with the aioli), broken eggs chorizo (maybe a little on the oily/unhealthy side with the fried potato bits but amazing comfort food), and not on their usual menu, but our dessert of the day was brownie topped with salted caramel and marshmallow/meringue.
