Reason for visit:Time flies, and it is time for Homie B to leave again, so us homies had an excuse to try another restaurant.  Decor/ Environment & Hygiene:Be prepared because there is a lot going on in this restaurant with all the different decorations and drawings, and colours. A bit random if you ask me, but at the same time, it gave the place a cozy feel that made one feel at home.    Those decorations were probably quite dusty, but everything else in the restaurant seemed clean and the way

Time flies, and it is time for Homie B to leave again, so us homies had an excuse to try another restaurant. 


Decor/ Environment & Hygiene:
Be prepared because there is a lot going on in this restaurant with all the different decorations and drawings, and colours. A bit random if you ask me, but at the same time, it gave the place a cozy feel that made one feel at home. 
  Those decorations were probably quite dusty, but everything else in the restaurant seemed clean and the way the staff handled things seemed okay too. Our table was right underneath this painting below, which we all came to love by the end of the night. Haha.

Taste & Value:
3 of us started with some drinks that we never had before. Homie B chose a banana beer that was very sweet but good! I chose a light beer from Lithuania and my other friend chose a Czech beer. Then, the 6 of us proceeded by each choosing a dish.

The 6 dishes that made it to our palates were:
My choice: Riba Pod Shuboy ($75)- This is a salad that is made of layers of beets, potaotes and fish, which I'm guessing is Herring. The beets had that nice fresh crunch to it, but the fish was overpowering, so I didn't really like this salad.

Homie J's choice: Ovoshnie Golubtsy ($138)- This is rice and vegetables wrapped in cabbage in a tomato sauce. This was a very good choice because of all the meat we ordered. My mom used to make this dish a lot when I was little, but she bathed it in a lot of tomato sauce, which made it very rich and heavy. That's why, when I had this, I was surprised how light,sweet and refreshing it was! It was a nice dish.

Homie Bi 's choice: Plov Po Uzbekski ($138)- This is a beef+ lamb rice pilaf. This dish was quite mild and the meat in the rice was a bit dry, but whatever veggies they used in it made the rice very sweet in a natural way. I think this dish would have tasted better if it was served hotter because it was kinda cold. If it was hotter, the flavours would have been more protruding I think.

Homie Ling's choice: Zakuska Po- Suzdalsky ($78)- This is ox tongue baked in a white wine cheese sauce. First of all, this was my first time eating ox tongue, so I really didn't know what to expect. The tongue was cut in cubes and the pastry on top was very hard and looked as if it was still a bit raw in the centre. I was so focused on the tongue that I neglected the sauce because all I can say about the sauce is that it looked thin, and wasn't too cheesy. The texture of the tongue was springy and to my surprise it didn't have that "organ" taste. It wasn't as disgusting as I thought, I even want to say that it was a good dish, but since I'm a first time tongue eater, take this with a grain of salt.

Homie B's choice: Kroll Zabava ($178)- Baked Rabbit! Another first for me. 
 I struggled to try this because all I could think of were all the rabbits I used to see hopping around on campus. However, I'm glad I tried it!
I think this dish had the best sauce of all six. Also, it was true that it tasted like chicken! Ha! But with a hint of a wild taste if you know what I mean. This dish had spaghetti in the pot with it, which soaked up a lot of the sauce. As this dish sat, you could see how oily it was.

 Queen M's choice:
Chicken Kiev ($158) + Mashed Potatoes ($22)- This dish is a chicken breast deep fried in the shape of a ball. It was an interesting dish to look at. 
 The outside was nice and crunchy, but the chicken inside was on the dry side; it was not tender nor juicy. I have to say though , it was nice having a familair taste after having the ox tongue and rabbit. As for the mashed potatoes, it was different from Western mashed potatoes that are quite dense. They were rice looking and were very light and fluffy! Not bad!

After all these savory bites, it was time for dessert! Woo hoo~
 The 6 of us agreed on the following three.

1. Bananchik ($46)- These banana fritters were soo good. An order came with 6 pieces so we each got one. The bananas were mushy, but the dough outside held it together. I liked that these fritters weren't greasy at all and were very yummy.

2. Russian Blini ($48)- This dish was served cold. It had two pancakes with some apple threads inside. The apples were crunchy, but maybe because they weren't stewed, we all felt that something was lacking. Also, the sauce it had really didn't do much for the dish besides adding some sweetness. It wasn't that bad, but all of us liked the other 2 a lot more.

3. Morojennoye Po - Kievski ($60)- Ukranian deep- fried ice cream BALLS!
 Like the first dessert, these deep fried balls were not greasy at all. I was expecting something like deep fired Japanese ice cream, but becase of the differences in batters, these were nothing like the Japanese ones. Although both the shell and ice cream were kinda hard, I really liked the crunch that the batter gave the ice cream, so I liked it !

Service:
The staff were friendly and helpful. The best part was that we were shown to THE ICE BOX, 
 where the owner took some interesting pictures for us. If you go to their facebook page, you will know what I'm talking about. 

Final Verdict:
I had a lot of first tries at this restaurant. The food was interesting, but not quite my taste. The company of friends and the friendliness of the owner made our experience a pleasant one.
