Living and working in Kowloon Bay sometimes makes dining out a bit challenging for me, as it could be quite boring to have lunch and dinner in the same restaurants (especially the chain ones where you can find them pretty much everywhere) now and then. However, there are quite a number of new joins blossoming in the industrial area of Kowloon Bay, which bring so much joy to my colleagues and I. 發哥粥底海鮮火鍋 is one of them. It seems to serve delicious seafood hotpot with congee (porridge) base. My co
發哥粥底海鮮火鍋 is a “cha daon” (local restaurant) by day, and seafood hotpot restaurant by night. The newly opened restaurant has a bright lighting and spacious seating for you to enjoy your meal, which is deeply adored.
All-you-can-drink soft drinks, which can be obtained from the fridge near cashier.
A plate of complementary salmon sashimi as grand opening treat. The salmon is fresh and meaty.
Mix your own seasoning sauce. I love the deep fried garlic (bottom left) and garlic (bottom right) so much!!
Ordering is pretty simple, there are two sets of seafood hotpot for you to choose from - half a lobster (HKD$258) or half a crab (HKD$198) per person. We ordered two each, so we had a whole lobster and a whole crab. Everything in this seafood platter for four were so fresh and tasty. The abalones were so fresh that they kept moving for an hour while we were eating other stuff!!! There was another dish of clams that I forgot to take picture…
A very handy trolley (?) with shelves was provided to hold the dishes temporarily to prevent overcrowding the table. But the focus of this picture should be the fish (多寶魚). It’s a bit bony as usual, but the meat was so smooth!! Great for fish lovers like me
This is how the hotpot looks like at the beginning. It’s like rice water with a bit of rice at the bottom. Corn, pumpkin, taro are served at the end to make a congee.
I was too busy eating, and didn’t take many pictures of the side dishes we ordered. You can order up to 8 side dishes. We were a bit skeptical whether that would be enough. The portion turned out just perfect to fill our tummies with no food left! Fantastic! These yummy fish balls stuffed with roes are truly delightful!
In general, the portion was generous, we had two shrimps each.
The final product, and a perfect full stop to this fantastic feast - congee! It soaks up all the essence from the seafood (shrimps, crab, lobster, clams, fish etc) we had. It’s so sweet and flavoured with seafood! Love it so much as it added carbs to our meat-based meal, and it warmed our stomachs on a cool autumn night.
Point to note, the waitresses are all very friendly and helpful. They are kind and patient in explaining to us how to order, as well as how to cook the seafood with the congee hotpot base. A menu-like instruction is also provided for each table to let you know how long you should cook different types of seafood in the congee base hotpot. Very considerate indeed! We are already planning to visit again before this restaurant gets really popular and crowded!
