Excited to tick off this 1 Michelin star ⭐️ (formerly 2 stars ⭐️⭐️) for a Friday lunch 🤩 🙌🏻Upon arrival we were escorted down one floor to the dining room. The restaurant is separated with a Lounge on the 29th floor and the main dining area and open kitchen on the 28th.We had requested a window table and although the view was fairly high, it was a little disappointing because we were just facing old buildings. We began our meal with some cocktails 🍹, the Louis XIII and Voyage which were buy 1 get 1

We had requested a window table and although the view was fairly high, it was a little disappointing because we were just facing old buildings.
We began our meal with some cocktails 🍹, the Louis XIII and Voyage which were buy 1 get 1 free during lunch (HK$ 128)
We found the Louis XIII very similar to a Bloody Mary. Voyage was quite interesting and had a strong green colour. However we had to send it back once because the first glass came with a small fruit fly inside it as an extra gift 😅

We both ordered the 4-course lunch (HK$580 p.p.) with added supplements instead of the 3-course (HK$480 p.p.).
The Amuse Bouche, Gazpacho 🍅 with Cheese and some Fish Roe, was quite refreshing
For our Cold appetizers, the Cuttlefish and Oyster 🦪 Tartare was inspired, fresh and tasty. The Firefly Squid 🦑 was soft and had a unique taste when you bit into it. The sauce from the oysters made the perfect accompaniment to cut through the flavors.
For the Hokkaido Scallop on top of eggplant, it was fresh and sweet with a wasabi dashi subtly lifting the dish.

For Hot appetizers, we ordered the Iberico Ham with White asparagus, which was good overall but it felt like something was missing. It was plain. Maybe a more flavorful sauce?
The Langoustine was one of the stars of the meal. it’s a HK$110 supplement. The portion was very small but we savoured every mouthful. The sauce with the morel mushroom was so divine I had to finish every drop with the brioche bread on the side. However, the presentation could be improved.

For the mains, we had the fish and beef.
The John Dory 🐟 was the wild fish of the day. Presently cooked to perfection glowing with a slight yellow tinge. However, again I think more could have been done with the sauce.
The Wagyu beef 🥩 was grilled to medium rare and served with mash. With Wagyu it is important for the beef to speak for itself. Good thing it did. Since there was watercress emulsion on the side, but it was not overpowering. The mash was smooth and not too creamy.

For desserts, it was not included in the lunch set. We added HK$70 for Chestnut Mont Blanc to share. It was well balanced and had plenty of texture and some crunch too. Very yummyThe portion of ice cream could have been a little larger. We took the opportunity to have our dessert on the balcony of the 29th floor Lounge and enjoyed the breeze before summer comes back into full swing in Hong Kong.
The petite fours were mini pineapple 🍍 butter biscuits. They looked cute but were too buttery for us.

Overall, I can understand why Zest has one Michelin ⭐️ , however I would say it is not deserving of its former two stars ⭐️⭐️ . There is finesse, but that just gets you into the door. To reach two stars level, each dish needs more closer attention to presentation and more effort to elevate the flavors like foams and sauces.
On a non culinary point you can see some areas of the dining room need maintenance and the toilet facilities on the Lounge floor especially are tired and old. When spending that much on a meal I don’t expect to see a rusting trash can or urinal.
Lunch for 2 people with 2 cocktails was: HK$ 1600.
Worth a try for a special / executive lunch!
