I decided to visit The Optimist based on a recommendation.  Checked out their menu online and decided to go for brunch in order to get an idea on the overal spread and taste of their food.

I'll break it down into three buckets-  The food, service, and ambience

The food:

As a table for two we ordered off the brunch menu where you will have access to a semi buffet, 3 appetizers to share (no choices) and one main each (choice of main).  Certain mains have a surcharge associated based on the premium proteins.  We decided to go with the Seafood rice and grilled chicken.  The semi buffet had a decent spread of charcuterie, salads, and croustinis.  The dessert is a chef's selection- we rec'd a caramel pana cotta type custard and a jarred cheese cake- both of which were good but the latter was very delicious.

Overall, food was pretty tasty, vibrant, and plenty of flavors.  Appreciate the influence of Northern Spain in the food which differs from the traditional Spanish Tapas you regularly find. I do believe they have a salamander oven which enables them to produce crispy chicken skin as well as nicely crisped whole fish.  Portion sizes were share worthy and I definetly did not leave hungry.

The Service:

My server Trina was attentative and regularly filling my flat water glass.  We received our food in a timely fashion despite being a full house.  She was happy to explain the brunch process as well as any questions we may have had.  We waited a bit longer than we would have liked for our beverages but they did come quickly after a quick reminder.

The ambience:

It was busy even though I arrived at 2pm which was an hr before brunch service was to end.  I noticed a lot of larger group tables as the food is very suitable for sharing.  It was bright, upbeat, and good energy for a Sunday.  Music was an assortment of recognizable pop songs which didn't make my meal unpleasant.  There's a good mix of foreigners and locals, don't have to worry too much about it being a hipsters only type joint.

Overall:

i'd like to go back and try their bar menu and perhaps dive in on a burger.  Their kids menu wasn't very northern spanish but nonetheless i was enticed by the idea of a good burger or spaghetti bologanaise...alas, I digress. Back to the point- its a nice departure from your regular eggs benny or british style breakfast which is available all over the place.  Come here with your friends, get a pitcher of sangria and have a good time over some broken eggs Huevos rotos.
