I was staying in HK during a weekend before heading back to LA. So, i decided to spend a lovely afternoon with my family in mandarin oriental for some desserts and cappuccino. I have never tasted their tea sets before so i had high expectation on them. I ordered the classic tea set for two and ordered 7 cakes separately The tea set turned out to be disappointing and ordinary. The only thing that is satisfactory are the scones with the rose pedal jam and clotted cream, but i still think l'atelier

The tea set turned out to be disappointing and ordinary. The only thing that is satisfactory are the scones with the rose pedal jam and clotted cream, but i still think l'atelier de joel robuchon has the best scones in town. Moving along, the ham and salmon sandwiches are nothing special( they dont even deserve to be mentioned in this review hehe). Anyway, the rest of the tea set included american cheese cakes, mango mouse and a red color chocolate cake ? , and they tasted very 美心 even though i dont know what 美心 cakes taste like now after all these years of not buying 美心 cakes.
So i ordered 2 Tiramisu, rasberry apricot mousse, chocolate mousse, strawberry and blueberry tart. Disappointingly, they tasted only alright, nothing surprised me or made me want to crave for more. For drinks, we order 2 cappuccino, 2 english breakfast tea, 1 blooming fortune and 1 african amber tea.
The cones are crunchy and freshly made. Overall, i think their quality of cakes has reached a point where improvement was thought to be unnecessary. Compared to a year ago, they did not show much difference in terms of taste and variety. They should focus less on the inedible displays, in which they change them every week, and be more focus on the cakes. The bill came out to $995 for 4 person, with this price, i think I have better choices.
