洪師父牛肉麵 (English name: Chef Hung Taiwanese Beef Noodle) is from Taiwan and has a lot of accolades for it's Taiwanese beef noodles. They have awards. Photos with the President of Taiwan eating there. I had the milk tea boba. It was ok. The boba was chewy but the milk tea was a bit too watered down.
Boyfriend had the taro milk tea. There was definitely not enough taro.
I had the lunch set which was the braised half tendon, half meet beef noodles soup ($85). From all the accolades, I thought it would be amazing. But it wasn't. The soup was ok but not that great. The noodles were chewy. The beef was soft and there was a nice bit of tendon. But it wasn't one of the best bowls I've had. I've had better. However, once we added a bit of the condiment they had on the table, it became different. It tasted like the ones in Taiwan. A lot better. So, if you can eat spicy, then add some of the sauce. Otherwise, you're dealing with a pretty average bowl.
It also came with a small plate of pickles that were ok. Though a bit on the spicy side.
Boyfriend ordered from the tea menu and had the mini braised pork and salt crispy chicken served with rice ($45). The braised pork bits were just ok. Nothing too special about them though I found it bit too sweet. The chicken was crispy but the seasoning wasn't too strong.
Overall, the food was ok. Not great. At least not enough for me to understand why it received so many accolades. Maybe it tastes better in Taiwan? For that, I guess I'll have to fly there. But in the meantime, I won't be back here.
