I was at this restaurant for brunch in end Oct., and it gave me a very good impression on both the foods and enviornment. So, I suggested this place to my friends for drinks and desserts last night (6 Nov.) But, the experience was sucks - only because the boss was there with his friends!!!!!!!! Last night happened to be a majoy ruby league for the Australian team, and they were broadcasting the game via on-line with a very poor reception. We sat right in front of the projector screen, and the broken-up interrupted broadcasting was really annoying. Anyway, we put up with it, and the only request we made was to tune down the volume a bit. But, the watier came back with an embarrassed face said that the boss and his friends were watching the game. When the boss came to us, I said since you guys enjoy the game so much, shall we swap tables as it is too nosie for us. Guess what the boss said in a very rude manner 'No need to swap tables and it is a sports bar!!!' .... It shocked us when this reply came from the boss. I believe the next thing he was going to say - Leave Oolaa if you are not the fans to Australian ruby and we do not need customers' feedback. I have never met any restaurant operators who only entertain the friends and ignor the patrons. Well, do they know they were watching the ruby game in a restaurant not the owner's apartment and should be more considerate!!! The boss has discredited Oolaa's good name with his bad attitude towards patrons!!!!!!!!!!! Hence, my friend, an overseas visitor, also complainted to a watier that the lady washroom had no toilet paper nor soap and it's water all over the place. BAD. If you want to visit Oolaa, I suggest you to first find out what the boss favour programmes for the night. If you do not share the same interest with him, don't go to Oolaa that night!!!! As, nobody will care about you nor take care of the pubic area!!!

Oolaa is quite new in these parts. It is also a risky investment. You never know how people respond to 3-in-one (cafe, bar/lounge, restaurant) concepts. They also have a bit of everything - pizza, steak, muffins, coffee, pasta, spring rolls...you name it. Lacking a central theme.

Plus, the fact that it is situated right across the road from Bridges Street Market is slightly disincentivizing. (in terms of view)

Service:
Amateur. You can tell from the way they speak to you, and from their frequent conferrals with each other (and the manager) that they have lots of room for improvement. But they're trying I think, and are...well, happy to help. I wouldn't say 'eager' yet.

Environment:
Nice, as you can see from the photos. But the cafe area was sort of packed and since it's an open area, smoke billows in from outside. You know how people are. Chain smokers take a joint before and after meals, disregarding the smoke-sensitive customers enjoying their lunch inside. It really, really puts me off. At one point we couldn't stand it any longer and request to move to another area, away from the smoke. Gee. Why do people even smoke in the first place..smoking is, in all respects, harmful.

Dining area (lower ceiling) can be quite romantic at night. At around 530pm , when it starts to get dark, they turn the lights down low too, creating this really nice atmosphere.

Food:

Mango Crumble topped with vanilla ice cream $70
I wasn't amused. The mango was unnecessarily sour, and the crumble wasn't crunchy/buttery enough. When I munched on the crumble it somewhat gave me a very heavy, filling sensation. I couldn't finish the whole thing. The vanilla ice cream helped to cut a bit of that feeling, but it disappeared really quickly. Not Movenpick, for sure. Coz there are no vanilla seeds in the ice cream. The fluffy white bit of hair is, I think, dragon-beard candy. (^^'' bad translation forgive me)

Cappuccino $35
Didn't try this but G said it was nice, the microfoam on top was made very nicely.

Conclusion:
Given the relaxing atmosphere and the tempting menu (you would agree!), I'd definitely come for lunch someday. Or dinner. Or both!
