Wonderful atmosphere with a real buzz and metropolitant feel to it. Hip, cosy and fun.However, despite nice presentation cauliflower, mussles, trout and pasta and even the banoffi pie were all pretty tasteless.The service is full of smiles, very attentive and a breath of fresh air with personal touches and genuine enthusiasm.If they get the food right this will be an amazing place!

I have been to JAR on two separate occasions.I have always been amazed by the food.For starters, they serve bread in a heated bag--and the bread is REALLY VERY GOODThe flatbread dish is excellent--especially the one that is meatLESS--and comes with FIGS. It is sweet..but not overwhelmingly so. Andthe combination of FIGs Greens and Cheese on top is amazing.The Chorizo+Squid (Grilled) is also pretty good.Actually you can order a range of Starters and share these among a couple of you.The other no

I have been to JAR on two separate occasions.

I have always been amazed by the food.

For starters, they serve bread in a heated bag--and the bread is REALLY VERY GOOD

The flatbread dish is excellent--especially the one that is meatLESS--and comes with FIGS. It is sweet..but not overwhelmingly so. And
the combination of FIGs Greens and Cheese on top is amazing.

The Chorizo+Squid (Grilled) is also pretty good.

Actually you can order a range of Starters and share these among a couple of you.

The other notable thing about the restaurant is that (according one of the owners WILSON) the floor is
actually made from a boat purchased in China. It was taken apart and hence, the wooden floor panels that you see
now.

The ambience is inviting, clean-cut, and warm. It's subtle. The chairs are kind of different from one end of the restaurant to
the other..but it's all well -harmonised.

IN SHORT--JAR is not JUST a restaurant...it's a GREAT place.

剛開業的JAR是798 Unit & Co其下的新餐廳,風格與銅鑼灣及尖沙咀的798 Unit & Co有些近似但更高檔一點,裝潢潔淨,但不失親切感。一步出電梯,即看到地上用方磚砌成的JAR字樣,menu上解釋了JAR的意思是Just-A-Restaurant,而我會將其演釋為not Just a nice Restaurant。798的食物一向水準不俗,今次試食JAR亦抱有較高的期望。環境及服務是不容置已的酒店水準,經理Daren更是健談之人,除了每張檯逐一關心及聊天外,更為我們推介是日新鮮生蠔,教授選蠔及烹調方法,才知道原來他以前曾從事生蠔批發,自己亦是愛吃又愛煮之人,言談甚歡。食品方面,先要讚其麵包,用麻包袋盛著保溫,雖然沒有太多款式,但是Homemade的口感已很滿足。四位朋友共試了兩款appetizer、三款主菜及三款甜品,沒拍照也忘了每道菜的名字了,不過總體而言,食品都很新鮮,味道亦很好,連配菜都講究的是我最欣賞的地方,甜品亦頗有驚喜,雪榚口味特別。一問之下,原來lunch都只是七八十元起,與同區比較是很相宜的價錢,已即時相約友人下次要來試試這裡的lunch。新張期內比較多

I would recommend making reservations for lunch, because on the day I went, it was full.
There was a function of somesort going on on one side of the dining area. In the middle of the dining area there was a middle-sized dessert bar, with duplicated items on either side so people wouldn't have to fight over the greens. On the other side of the room sat parties of 2-4. The ceiling is quite low so it gets noisy quite easily.

A short while after we arrived, a friendly waitress placed a bag of hot rolls and butter on the table. It looked like this.

Quite intelligent - the thick bag keeps the bread warm; and there's also heated pebbles sitting at the base of the bag, again, to retain the heat of the rolls. They were soft, hot and delicious. The shell was harder than the inside but did not surrender any messy bread crumbs. I had 3 of the miniature rolls - not too much I hope?

There on the bottom right, see? E told me what it was but I forgot. Some kind of grain, from North America. The salad was fresh and watermelon was extremely juicy and sweet.

H had this. I only tried a spoonful. It tasted beefier/meatier than usual and was not sour. I'm not a big fan of tomato soups, but this one was quite acceptable, so I suppose its' worth a try for the diner who doesn't mind tomato!


Risotto with slow-braised oxtail

H had this. I ate two spoonfuls. The risotto was properly cooked - no raw grains, the only complaint being the slight lacking of flavour. The oxtail was soft, meaty and yummy - flaked into shreds and mixed in with the risotto. There are pieces of parmesan on top of the pile which I didn't like - could've done parmesan SHAVINGS instead. And really, the risotto itself needs to be saltier. or more flavourful.

E's pick. Oh, the sandwich was lovely. Hot and crisp, buttery, but not dripping with oil, hot on the inside, cheesy and matted together. The potato wedges were surprisingly different from the say...KFC wedges. Not that type. This one was probably baked...the skin was very thin, there was no 'deep fry' feeling to it - it felt much healthier than the common crispy potato wedge. The center was solid, not fluffy and mushy like the insides of regular potato wedges. It was accompanied by a small jar of pickled vegetables.

I had this. The pesto cld've been stronger in taste, and they could've mixed in more sauce with the pasta, I would've been happier. But the pasta was al dente, no complaints there. Sadly a bit drier than desired - could've reserved some pasta water to un-stick the pasta strands. Zucchini was sweet and not bitter, peas were average, so was the spinach. On the whole a satisfactory dish - no unexpected surprises (in neither good nor bad senses of the word). This quality is what I'd expect to get for the price I'm paying.

I could taste the honey in this cake and it had a nice, moist texture, firm and solid, but not too heavy. The tartness of the berries embedded within it matched the faint hint of honey. But the berries at the bottom were ugly.
kind of soggy there. sitting there. soggy. But I finished the whole thing anyway

We didn't plan to have this initially, but we saw plates and plates of this delightful quarter-dome dessert filing out from the kitchen to the other part of the restaurant, where there was a function. It looked delicious. We couldn't resist the temptation so we ordered one. The banana cream was firm and tasted strongly of what it is supposed to taste like. There was a rather thin layer of toffee, which is actually good for the waistline. So i didn't mind the fact that it wasn't as sweet or substantial as the JASPAS style banoffee pie, which is my absolutely favorite. The crust was digestives, can't go wrong there.


Conclusion:
Yep, will bring friends here, before prices start escalating.
