what a pity. after being a loyal customer who thoroughly enjoyed this places fab Tuna melt sandwich and my kids love their waffles, I've just had to experience the worst service ever. As supposedly you can take away a tuna melt & extra fries. but not the waffle (2 tiny waffles) from the afternoon-tea menu. For no clear reason.
The waffles normally come as a package - with tea and a scoop of icecream or fruit salad on the side. I made clear that my kid wanted neither - nor tea, nor icecream nor fruit salad. she just wanted those 2 mini waffles same as her sister wanted the fries. in a bag, to go, as they were tired and had wet hair after swimming and we didn't feel like dining in today.
I was told, it's impossible. Why was not explained. the reason given was "because it's on the afternoon menu" - well, it was still afternoon and I could have ordered the item to dine in. She wanted 2 plain waffles in a paperbag to go. - impossible to do supposedly.
I did at no point ask for a discount or reduction (because I was not doing the tea nor the icecream). I was willing to pay the whopping 65 hkd for those 2 tiny waffles to keep my kid happy. - Still a no.
Now, that I call stupidity, as I normally spend weekly about 280-300 hkd at this place; we go swimming nearby and shopping in the mall regularly; means the monthly spendings at the place would have been around 1500 hkd a month easily. obviously Dan Ryan's does not require loyal customers, nor their money. As they've lost me as a customer. Being treated with so much stupidity is painful to anyone wiht a bit of hospitality background.
The paperbag would have cost 0.5hkd, the icing sugar on the waffle (comes with it anyways) is 0.05hkd as well. they would have saved a tea and a scoop of icecream. so financially a no-brainer. Also, there is as much or as little "health risk" in doing fries or a sandwich for takeaway, as a regular waffle. - So - no idea what was going on.
But neither the hostess (clueless) nor the barman/supervisor (not interested), nor the manager of this place himself, had the logic to say: WOW - this lady wants to spend HKD 300 here and does want to take out - hence, less work for us, as we don't need to serve her, clean the table, wash the dishes, PLUS we safe on the tea and the icecream.
Instead they insisted on "no can do".
Well - Dan Ryan's ......you've lost a customer for good. I'm sure, with the help of many great forums, I shall find another place in Hongkong that makes just as nice Tuna Melt sandwiches and waffles for my kids. and maybe that one will apply common sense and customer service to their business.
