There are a lot of good restaurants in Jordan but unfortunately this area isn’t just some place I would ‘happen to be in’ often. Well, guess what..I just happened to be in Jordan for a doctor’s appointment so of course I forced my mom to have lunch there with me XDI was craving for noodles (as usual) so we went into Mak Man Kee, which is a famous Wonton Noodle joint that’s been around for years. I was craving for noodles (as usual) so we went into Mak Man Kee, which is a famous Wonton Noodle joint that’s been around for years. According to what my mom says the owner is related to the other famous “Mak” noodles places over on the island.
For a supposedly ‘run-down’ restaurant the store is actually kept quite clean and tidy.
-They place the noodles on top of the wontons so as to prevent the noodles from being soggy too soon. I spooned out a piece of wonton though for the picture
-The clear broth is made from fish and shrimp I believe – very yummy and I didn’t taste too much MSG. It did have a watery note though.
-The noodles were perfect! It didn’t have an alkaline taste which is a taboo by Cantonese standards lol..I guess serving a small portion has its purposes as it avoids the problem of soggy noodles towards the end.
-The wontons were literally bite size – maybe just an inch or so wide. They stuffed it with only shrimp and the shrimp was so fresh & bouncy! They also added some shrimp roe into the filling to season it, so biting into the wonton was like a shrimp explosion in my mouth XD
-I also love how the wontons were perfectly wrapped. It was very thin, yet strong enough to hold some broth within the wrap. It also didn’t scrunch up at the sealed end which is a problem at many other wonton places – you would end up eating a piece of uncooked wrapper dough.
Funny side note – while we were eating we heard the following conversation between the waiters:
A: 一陣間三點啊英會黎呀!(Ah Ying is coming at 3!)
B: 邊個啊英呀?(Who’s Ah Ying?)
A: 咪梁振英囉!(Leung Chun Ying!)
Hahaha so I guess their noodles are good enough for the Chief Executive to make a trip to Jordan
Anyway, I would love to go back again and try their 炸醬麵 next time, seems like every table ordered a plate.
