阿元來了(English name Yuan is Here) is originally located in Sai Ying Pun. With a focus on Taiwanese food, it was decorated like a night market. I had tried and thought it was pretty good so when I heard they had opened a new branch in Kwun Tong, I was peaked to give it a try. When trying to find it, I came across this map pasted on the wall. When trying to find it, I came across this map pasted on the wall. It told me to go around to the other side.
Then in an alley, there was a wooden cart in front.
Enter through the narrow hallway and you will find Yuan is Here. The place is much larger than their Sai Ying Pun address. It's decorated to really look like a night market. It was pretty impressive.
Menu is in the form of a check off piece of paper. It's in Chinese only. There is no 10% service charge.
Noodles with Prawn and Minced Meat ($35). This was ok. The noodles had a good chewy texture. The meat sauce was a bit weak though. There wasn't much flavor. The egg wasn't marinaded which was surprising.
Thin Noodles with Oysters ($40). Boyfriend ordered this and I tried some. It was a bit salty but the soup wasn't as thick as usual. The noodles were chewy. But the oysters oddly were flavorless.
Fried Chicken ($30). The fried chicken was terrible. Oily and and with no seasoning. The coating was also chewy and was a bit cold.
Assorted Chinese Marinaded Items ($35). This included pig's ear, tofu and one chicken wing. This wasn't very good, too. The marinade had a weak flavor. It was mostly salty with not much else so I suspect it's mostly soy sauce. Nothing was soaked in. Not even the tofu which I thought would have soaked up the marinade the most. It was pretty mediocre.
Though the place is much bigger and decorated far more extravagantly, the food wasn't as good. It wasn't as flavorful. Disappointing really as seating is far more spacious than their original branch. But prices are still inexpensive. I think I prefer their original branch than this one.
