A new branch of Dang Wen Li has opened in Hong Kong. This time in Central where they have an inhouse bakery so you can buy fresh bread. They also have a dine in area where they offer an item that is only found at this location. The Satay Beef Peanut. We decided to try it out! The Satay Beef Peanut. We decided to try it out! There isn't that long of a wait unlike the Tsim Sha Tsui branch.
Menu is in English and Chinese. They offer a set combo which includes a drink. I chose an ice latte and wow...it's big!
But while we were flipping through the menu, we saw something even more interesting! A sugar cane sorbet! Made from sugar cane juice of the famous Central sugar cane juice shop, Kung Lee Sugar Cane Juice! Well, had to get that, right? Price? $52.
The sorbet wasn't very big. But the entire sugar cane case was filled with sorbet. It was also delicious. Ok. Beyond delicious! Sweet from the sugar cane juice and refreshing. The sorbet was smooth. There was a tiny green leaf made from white chocolate. This was fabulous! And I'd definitely get this again until they stop selling it!
The other item was the Satay Beef Peanut. We chose the combo set that came with a drink so it cost $78. Two fair sized peanut shaped cakes arrived.
The staff told us to slice it open and pour the sauce on top. Inside was pieces of beef.
The satay sauce went on top. The sauce I felt was too chunky and just tasted like peanut butter. Not satay sauce at all. The beef was ok but the cake was sweet so this whole thing felt too strange. A salty sweet combination with peanut butter sauce on top. I didn't like it. None of it worked or me. It did look cute but not good at all. Wouldn't order this again.
The location is convenient and there was no real line to dine in unlike the Tsim Sha Tsui branch which makes it a bonus. I'd definitely be back for the sorbet and perhaps try some bread. However, I'd stay away from the peanut thingl
