I have been dining at Shikigiku ifc (formerly 稻菊) for over a decade, and the recent visits still exceeded my expectations. It is among the best tempura spots in town - the batter is light, crisp, and fragrant, enveloping prawns, oysters, and shishamo (多春魚) so delicately that the seafood inside tastes gently steam-cooked, yet the outer layer remains perfectly crunchy. The seasonal menu was a pleasant surprise even to friends who frequent Japan - each course highlighted freshness, umami, and elegant harmony.
Service was attentive and sincere throughout, creating an unhurried and joyful atmosphere. When full, the restaurant can get lively, but it never feels chaotic. Paired with softly dimming harbour views and the company of good friends, this was a meal that delighted the palate, eyes, and mind. A place I look forward to returning to!
