My friend from Shanghai wanted to check out the new Sogo! We walked around and liked this restaurant’s atmosphere, so gave it a try. Steak dish was amazing! Meat was cooked perfectly, mashed potato was high quality, homemade kind and it came with lovely lotus root chips! It was close to high end steak restaurant! Went for a nice bday meal Atmosphere was nice as usual although music was a bit loud. Except for main dish and dessert platter, small dishes and alcohol were unlimited. Even small in each portion, many of them do get you full! The dishes were all above average, but with the price, it’d be a better deal if you can drink! Recommended dishes are tuna tartare with miso and lotus chips (flavorful tarts with onion and cucumber comes with deep fried crispy lotus chips- they matched well), seared beef tatami with truffle ponzu (nicely cooked beef), seared salmon with lemon and shisho and soy (nice with small pop rices). The cake itself wasn’t special, but the decoration was really well done. I contacted the shop by WhatsApp and they were very helpful in answering all my questions. Cake decoration items were mostly not for eating, but the bottom layer decoration was quite ok. Cake flavor we chose was strawberry sauce vanilla cake, it was quite mild tasting sponge cake with strawberry sauce in between layers. It wasn’t overly sweet, which was good. There was an extra delivery fee, but delivery service was good (on time and explained on how to keep the cake). Went here for afternoon tea on Sunday. These tiramisu were really good and they went really well with coffee. Ladyfingers were soft, but not mushy and had good amount of flavor. Smooth cream had the right amount of sweetness. I liked both flavors: original one is less sweet and has a bit of Korean rice wine taste where as the green tea one was a bit sweeter and had that special matcha flavor. Was looking for pretty cake that was good for 5 people. Heard from a friend this cake shop is famous and has Taiwanese flavor to it. We opted for cute star cake, inside is nice too! It’s checkered with pink and black cubes (strawberry and chocolate). At first bite, it tasted just so so, but as we ate more we realized it has quite good texture (cake is soft, but there are some crispy chocolate things mixed in). Cream outside wasn’t that tasty, but given that the look was more important, it makes sense to use less tasty but holds we’ll type of cream. Order a cake for baby’s b-day celebration! We chose this place just because we could pick it up in early morning on the way to friend’s place in Tseung Kwan O. These days, it seems as every celebration gathering is done in the morning, ughhh. Anyway, pick up was easily done by showing the receipt. This Mango Mille-feuille was good for 4-5 people. Pastry was crispy and biscuit-like as it should be although it could’ve been more puffy/buttery. Cream was not overwhelmingly sweet, but the right amount of sweet. However, mangoes were sour! I love all kinds of dessert and of course, I love their cakes!Me and my girlfriends thought why go for a big cake with one flavour when we can go for many small cake pieces for many flavours!!!Happy we chose to do that because trying different cakes from Mandarin cake shop!Every single one was so nice: chocolate, chestnut.
