Since "drinking water still get fat" and really enjoy eat around, quality not quantity is what I am looking for my diet... Also, as I had worked as a chef at an Italian restaurant for almost 4 yrs and crazy about FoodTV @Vancouver... Food, which many people just considering as healing the hunger, is an "Art of Senses" for my point of view... Garnish... Smell... Taste... all matters!! however, nice ones don't have be always pricy... ^_*

BEFOREWhen I was in Vancouver, I did work as a chef in an Italian pasta restaurant for over 4 years... But now, I am back in HK for my career that nothing related to cooking... hehe A best friend of mine told me that there was a new pasta house opened around Mei Fu and there was a chef there who worked in Peninsula before... and a very famous star agent was there twice as appreciated the food there. So, why not give it a try? Haha My friend booked a table for 4 @730pm... we arrived there around 15 minutes earlier and took no rush for being seated... we understood the place was small with limited seats... people did need quality time to enjoy quality food. So, we waited about 10 minutes then got seated... Me and my <(^@@^)>... my friend and his wife...DURINGI didn't take much time on the menu as I wanna have my friends decide what to eat... So, I asked my <(^@@^)> what she wanna have and she said... pasta with tomato... Mmmm... quite simple request and I liked that.Anyways, we finally ordered the following things... I didn't have the CORRECT name of each dish as I was relaxed and worry free about the menu... hehe CREAM OF CORN SOUPNice soup... could taste the sweetness of corn as I believe the chef might have blended the corns and therefore release the core flavour of corns... WELL DONE!! :)BAKED CHEESE BREAD SIDED WITH MARINATED DICED TOMATOFresh and perfectly golden browned for the cheese bread... most important was that they were just out from the oven!! I rather to have these than free plain bread slices... nice combination with the marinated diced tomato... perfect as a starter!! :)CLAMS IN CREAMY WINE SAUCETwo thumbs up!! Fresh and not fishy at all... cooked just rite... the taste of clams was blossom and the creamy wine sauce was the leaves... each of them fitted their characters perfectly. Actually, I stole the only piece of bread on the dish for wipping the leftover sauce,,, haha SPAGHETTI WITH (CHICKEN...?? FORGOT... SORRY... ) IN FRESH BASIL TOMATO SAUCEI am a BIG BIG BIG... FAN of basil... The aroma of basil is the perfect match with tomato!! :) So, scored high of this dish... but seriously... the chef might alter a little bit for Hong Kong style... the sauce could be more stronger in flavour of herbs and the pasta was well done instead of al dente... RISOTTO WITH CRAB MEAT AND SEARED SCALLOP IN PARMASAN CHEESE SAUCEAfter a bite of the scallop... I told my friend that if the scallop I had at PETRUS scored 10 as perfect... this one would be 7.5... which was pretty high for a small restaurant. :) There was plenty of crab meat and again... slightly Hong Kong style again... could be more creamy ... al dente... and stronger cheese flavour... but still nice dish!! :)CARBONARAThis was the the dish I was afraid to eat when I was a chef... because it was SO FAT... if you made it the most yummy way... hehe Lucky that the chef here in MIA was using the HEATHLY way to cook it... I could tell by some small details... hehe My only suggestion to this dish... with no offense... it would turn out quite watery once the egg yolk was mixed with the sauce and this part had to be considered... Add oil!! :)DESSERT (FRESH STRAWBERRY PARFAIT AND TIRAMISU)I am not a BIG FAN of dessert... but I have to say IMPRESSIVE!! Smooth... rich... just the rite sweetness... Applause!! :)We wrapped up the dinner with hot tea with lemon slices and hot coffee... Satisfied!! :)AFTERI have to admit that I was slightly harsh on this review since that exactly what I cooked years ago... and I was quite good on that... haha... However, the dishes scored quite high even with my high expectation... the alteration for Hong Kong style thoughts... were all only my personal opinions with no offense... HK Epicurus This shop I tried to come 1 day but couldn't find it - since I had no address on me!So you beat me to it! :)Is that Poached Egg on Carbonara dish? Please teach me how to cook the nastily-unhealthy but most TASTIER version! :) I think one can tell from photos - the pastas not al dente enough. Just the reflection and colour alone already! But still, want to try the Gaddi's chef's food ! ^_^'

I think I also couldn't find the place if I was without my friend... lucky me... hehe Yup... that's the Poached Egg and it's an interesting idea; however, the sauce may need to be adjusted a little bit or it would be watery as I mentioned... Any nastily-unhealthy... hehe... In the past... I would first pan fried the bacon till crispy and used the release fat to deep fry the onion dices... then cream... then egg yolk whipped in off the fire... salt, pepper, and parmasan cheese at the last... It's a quite simple sauce and PORK FAT rules!! haha About the al dente... I think the chef mainly did that because not many ppls do enjoy the true al dente... oh well... you may request when you make the visit and the place is certainly worth to be tried... :)

星期日下午來個蔡生效應,到羊城飲茶去。坐的士前去時,司機大哥笑說羊城還在嗎? 我想不會吧。。。不會這麼倒霉吧!結果。。。羊城還在;朋友未至。拿着新玩具拍了些照片,便與隨後到步的好友徐徐入座。坐下來便環看四周,我們四人該是最年輕的一枱吧。 開了壼壽眉,不錯。。。老實說當然不是上乘,但嚐得出老實,不會味淡如水。接着一位姐姐走了過來下單。想吃什麼?現在有些什麼?蝦餃、燒賣、鳳爪。。。那每樣一籠。還有來壼蒸飯,謝謝。蒸飯要哪種呢?唔。。。鳳爪排骨吧!(蔡生推介)實話實說,這裏的點心味道談不上出眾,但卻能細嚐出一份傳統的暖意。蝦餃,大粒蝦爽;燒賣,結實不膩;雞扎,足料製作;鳳爪,四平八穩;臘腸卷,略不夠肥;蓮蓉包,無敵蓮蓉;馬拉糕,傳統萬歲!! 而重頭戲的鳳爪排骨蒸飯真的不賴。。。平實中見真章!:) 鳳爪依然的四平八穩,而排骨絕不嬉場。。。咬口結實而不韌,肉味依在與調味相輝,飯粒粒分明而略帶肉香,著實比很多的大酒家都更出色!!有趣的一提,不知是否小弟當日裝扮及行徑看似記者。。。我們一枱的待遇有着米芝蓮的級數。大厨哥哥甚至走出問我們食物怎樣?中途暫止的蒸飯要否替我們再返蒸熱?窩心得很啊!!:)吃罷枱上所有,嘆着茶細看各枱客人與樓面的自在,有趣!最後承惠一百一十六元正,更有趣!!I LOVE 老店!!哈哈 …查看更多

BEFOREThis was the 3rd X'mas with my <(^@@^)> and I have decided to make this one kinda SPECIAL. With a bit of OPENRICE research, there were two final contestants; Petrus and G...... it's in the P...... around TST... So, I called both the restaurants for enquiry of details of the X'mas nite. During the conversation, both of them started with English and there would be not a problem for me. Both of them were equally polite and helpful but not with their oral English. I had to ask the gentleman of G..... to speak in Cantonese instead and I could absolutely tell that he felt relieved as my request. The lady from Petrus sounded much more comfortable. After phone calls, they both sent me the email attached the details of the X'mas dinner... and here came the most crucial part for my decsion making... When I read the email from G..... it started with "Dear Mr. Ho," Huh!? Sorry...... that was a mistake should not be made by this level of restaurant... Oh well...... Too bad...... So, here we came the winner... PETRUS!! DURINGMe and my <(^@@^)> arrived the restaurant 1/2 hr earlier than the reservation that should be 7:30pm; however, there were no awkard moment at all and we were greeted warmly then led to our table with a super nice window view as requested during the booking. Rey (hope I didn't make a mistake) friendly welcomed us and briefly explained the arrangement of the nite... welcome gifts, performance of live X'mas songs, Santa Claus arriving, and etc. Then we started our X'mas dinner with recommended glasses of sparkling wines and a nice selection of bread. With a bit unsalted butter and pinches of 6 different kinds of sea salt on the bread, my tongue was waken and ready for the wonderful dishes.CARPACCIO DE LANOUSTINE, FOIE GRAS ET POMME VERTELangoustine carpaccio with duck liver and green appleAs the 1st starting dish of the whole nite and served as a warm up, it did a good job. :) The prawn was nothing fancy but fresh and cooked just rite; the head was slightly deep fried served with Japanese soy sauce. I like that idea with no wasting and respecting the food!! The duck liver was rich and smooth; the after taste was impressive and the combination of that with green apple was perfect... just like me and my <(^@@^)>... hehe Plz don't throw up while reading that...CREME DE POTIRON ET CHATAIGNEMuscade pumpkin and chestnut creamMy <(^@@^)> is always a BIG FAN of pumpkin :) ; therefore, she did really enjoy the creamy pumpkin soup. It was interesting that there were several whole chestnut found and that was kind of a sweet soup that I think most ladies would love. Honestly, I am more interested in their signature soup, the black truffle cream one... Too bad that it wasn't included in the dinner set... May be next time. NOIX DE SAINT JACQUES DOREE, COQUILLAGES EN NAGE CREMEUSE ET ACIDULEESeared scallop, shellfish in tangy and creamy warm nageIf you wanna know how should a PERFECT scallop be like, then take a bite of this dish... that simply my feeling while I was enjoying that. I felt that the the scallop was just melting slowly with a tiny gentle push of my teeth... tender but not chewy nor sticky at all... and the creamy warm nage was being supportive here... not stealing the beautiful flavour of the scallop and the shellfish... NICE!! :)BAR DE BRETAGNE MEUNIERE, ENDIVES BRAISEES AU VIN JAUNE, TRUFFE NOIREBrittany seabass meuniere, braised endives in yellow wine and black truffleI am not a BIG FAN of fish when it comes to western style. Steamed fish with soy sauce, green onion with ginger, hot sizzling oil on the top is my all time only choice. However, this dish was surprising me even I was that stubborn. I think the texture was the crucial part... coz the tenderness of fish was still able to be kept even it was well done... no need to have medium rare for fish!! Cool!! SELLE D'AGNEAU DE L'AVEYRON ROTIE, PANOUFLE BRAISEE ET GRATIN DE POMME DE TERRERoast Aveyron milk-fed lamb saddle, braised panoufle and potato gratinMy <(^@@^)> is not a BIG FAN of lamb but she did enjoy this dish and finished all ... and this meant a lot!! I would say this dish was done with impressive details... the sauce... the starch part... the garnish... APPLAUSE!! BRIE DE MEAUX AUX TRUFFESBlack truffle Brie de Meaux cheeseIf you asked me, which dish I will order again for the visit next time... I would tell you THIS IS THE ONE!! :) This was my most favourite dish among all the wonderful dishes. The complex flavour was so impressive... it was strong but not attacking... there was nothing left in my mouth but the taste was still hanging around... really love the crispy bread with the soft smooth cheese as it satisfied people like me who enjoy texture contrast... One more interesting thing was that... it did look like a ice-cream sandwich... haha GRANTIE SANGRIASpiced wine granit'eIt fitted its role of the refresher before the dessert... slightly bitter commented by my <(^@@^)>CARRE FONDANT AU CHOCOLAT DES CARAIBES, CREME GLACEE AU SPECULOOSCaribbean chocolate fondant, speculoos ice creamRIch choco... smooth texture... not too sweet... My <(^@@^)> is a BIG FAN of choco but I am not... she said she wouldn't mind if she needed to finish mine for me though she was quite full... But, I minded... hehe So, you should know how good was that... haha BISCUITS DE NOELChristmas cookiesSeason festival treats... Not much to comment but nice. :)We then finished the dinner with hot tea with lemon slices... sound nice... hehe AFTERBoth me and my <(^@@^)> were really happy about the dinner... not just because of the food... but the service as well. Rey was professional in both his knowledge and attitude... his caring was warm, friendly with a bit homour... the arrangement got nothing to be complained at all... and MOST IMPORTANT... we were both comfortable and joyful with all the atmosphere and interactions... With my <(^@@^)> and such a nice X'mas dinner... what else could I ask for more?P.S. This review is Ver. 2.0 because I did write one before this... but I pressed the wrong button and ALL VANISHED!! HK Epicurus Really great Write-Up - need to re-read again to digest after my dinner tonight haha! *********CARPACCIO DE LANOUSTINE, FOIE GRAS ET POMME VERTELangoustine carpaccio with duck liver and green apple****That Prawn in your photo doesn't seem to be the Langoustine Carpaccio, its the Crevette D'Obsiblue, think they changed to that menu last minute! Which is much better! LUCKY YOU! :)

HK Epicurus I'm just lucky,I checked their dinner menu 1 night trying to book a table,so I noticed their change from menu they sent me in Email all of sudden! :(Loving your Reviews already! :)
