Why all the hate? I had a good meal!

I don't understand where all the hate for this place is coming from (admitidely I can't understand most of the reviews).Tip 1: The door is a lateral sliding door. Don't worry if you try to push and pull, most do, but there's your heads up It's a small little place but nice atmosphere. Not tacky, not luxurious, not dirty. Menu is in Chinese + English btw.The menu isn't terribly extensive but the prices are all reasonable. Expect your usual choice of chicken, pork or beef, with either soup (spicy or not) and/or noodles or rice, and a number of sauces/flavourings.Tip 2: Don't go there if you don't like Lemon grass. Seriously, 80%+ of their meals have lemon grass in the title.I had one of the lemon grass noodle dishes with beef and a tea with lemon. Service was quick and presentation was very good (they have those weird rectangular bowls without straight edges and a wavey rim). Noodles at the bottom and then the lemon grass beef layered on top before some sprinkling of beansprouts, grated vegetables and peanuts. The presentation, flavour and ingredients somewhat reminded me of Wagamamas back in the UK.Now I'll have to offer one caveat, although I expect this may have been a one off, I'll have to go back and see if it's recurrent: My noodles were luke-warm, so only the ones in contact with the meat and sauce were warm. That didn't stop me finishing my plate but served as a slight disappointment. My guess is maybe they'd been prepared sooner and cooled off, in which case it may just be unlucky that I'd walked in after a period of no-one ordering noodles. Luckily the food was tasty so I definitely intend on returning.…查看更多

mikie26 Hi OEB, don't take this as a hate reply but more of a follow up to your "why all the hates" comment. The reason why you were surprised with all the hates is most likely because you compared this place with a UK based Vietnamese restaurant, and not something local. London is known to have sub-par Asian food, while Hong Kong is ozzing with top notched eateries.Though taste is a personal thing and there is no true gauge to measuring food quality, there are a few things we can use to measure a place's worth. Bang for the buck, quality of ingredients, amount of aweful MSG used... and sorts.Let's weight this place down shall we?- 4 tiny little pieces of beef + 3 1/2 beef balls- an insane amount of MSG used as soup base- luke warm soupFor a place that pride itself as the PHO expert, for SHAME!If you are a lover of fresh hot PHOs, there are many many more options around town offering much better of an experience than this.Good luck!

I've been in HK for about 2 weeks now and usually eat in local eatteries around CWB so my expectations for dinner aren't high. I fancied going for some dim sum tonight; you know, treat myself a little; saw the nice rating on openrice for this place and thought why not.First things first:This place has been renovated into a restaurant and no longer serves Dim Sum (they have a couple of Dim Sum like deserts, that's it).The price tag of 40-100HKD should be updated, expect to pay 101-150The appearance of the place is very distinguished, dedicated reception area and the staff are forthcoming. However once seated my impressions were dampened.Service is slow! Despite having chosen a main course in the reception area, I was seated for 30 minutes before it arrived.I ordered the Pork Ribs in Sweet and Sour Orange sauce (something like that).Presentation is excellent, nicely laid out on a wide plate with some added couli zig-zags. Very impressive. Taste however was nothing to write home about.Lastly, the final bill was 130HKD (Pork ribs were 65HKD , small bowl of rice, a beer and tea).I only had 150HKD.The change was returned as 1x 10HKD bill, 1x 5$ coin, 1x 2$ coin, 3x 1$ coin.I'd barely taken the $10 bill that the waiter slowly started retreating with the rest of the change. God knows why I let him get away with it, I had no intention to leave a tip but I just wanted to get out of there never to return again.…查看更多

j.soprano It is possible that the restaurant only serves dim sum for lunch as dim sum is a meal usually eaten for lunch. Some dim sum restaurant turn into hot pot restaurant in the evening.
