Wait 2 hrs for a taste of USA
芝樂坊餐廳
2017-07-27
After the recent opening in May, the damning SCMP review made us hesitant to try this place. But our curiosity got the better of us and queued up after work. Waiting for 2 hrs for a bar too high table, we were starving. We ordered fried calamari and buffalo wings classed as "appetisers". For $130-150, they had better taste AMAZING and be HUGE portions! In a moment of hesitation we also ordered the enchiladas. The calamari was crispy, bite size and nicely presented with tomato sauce and tartar sauce served on the side. Portion was big, for that kind of price, it should be!The buffalo wings were yummy. Just like in the US. Crispy fried in breadcrumbs and tossed in chilli BBQ sauce. The ranch dressing was better than the blue cheese. We couldn't eat the enchiladas as we were too full but it looked great, just a bit small which was disappointing considering the price. We finished with raspberry lime cheesecake. Loved it, the raspberry sauce was sharp and sweet. Lots of cream. All in all, not bad and I will visit again. :)…查看更多

Fun and cute. Don't expect gourmet

This is a fun experience. The interior is a bit school canteen. Not very fancy and fairly basic standard furnishings but the colours are bright and it appeals to kids and adults that feel like being like a kid (me that day). The menu is well presented in English and Chinese. The photos were clear and a good representation of the food. We ordered some har gow prawn dumplings which looked great, tasted good even when cold (by the time we finished playing with our food most of it got cold). The famous steamed buns were nice and full of goo for squeezing. The speciality drinks looked great but tasted just ok. The deep fried thing was a bit of a let down as it was bland and tasteless. The concept is great and I will come back. …查看更多

Warning! Don't buy takeaway!
炑八韓烤
2017-01-06
This is a nice looking restaurant and usually with customers any time of the day. The outside decoration looks good and inside looks fairly clean and tidy.I ordered the tea set for takeaway. It cost $68 but the lady without telling me add 2 x box charge and 1 x plastic bag charge. She looked quite angry and not friendly. The beef ribs were tasty but a small portion the carrots and turnips were soft enough. Not that soft but the flavour is there. The rice was ok portion. When I got the takeaway I asked about the appetisers and soup that are supposed to be complimentary. The lady said "takeaway don't have it". No soup and no appetisers?!?!The food is good but I was disappointed with the hidden and extra charges and not getting what it says on the menu. Also lady, cheer up pls. Customer service is important. Being nice and giving appetisers as said on menu would be nice. Your food is good. Don't mess it up with poor service and sneaky and unpleasant additional charges or restrictions.…查看更多

The Magic Is Gone
Twenty Six by Liberty
2016-11-05
Chef Vicky created this restaurant in 2010 and I had the fortune of visiting several times. The reason for its success has been the brand that he has built in the adventurous menu, fusing east meets west with locally sourced ingredients balanced with regional and international elements. His outgoing and approachable demeanor made him an unforgettable chef that you would respect and appreciate the interactions he gave you over the course of an 8 course degustation meal. The brilliant concept of a small intimate open kitchen setting thrives on interaction with the chef, the sommelier and the people you are seated with. It allows for interactive experiences of the food and wine, that gives a unique intimacy and enjoyment.Unfortunately standards have severely slipped since 2010. The current chef Christopher resembles a grumpy antisocial schoolboy that evidently shows a lack of confidence balanced with humility in his interaction with customers and in his demeanor around the kitchen. It is an open kitchen and to whisper with your staff or go off into corners whispering is very uncomfortable for the customers. Even more so when you are showing an obvious disdain to the response and feedback by customers of your food. If it's shit and more than one person says it is, find out what's wrong, don't sulk in the corner like a child. It takes a bigger person to interact and find out what works and doesn't work. This chef evidently lacks this and any kind of charm. It doesn't matter how amazing his CV may sound, the food should speak for itself. The 36hr consommé tasted like 2 hours pressure cooked. The freezing cold fois gras was inedible. The pickled grapes were not pickled, something he admitted quietly. The radishes looked pretty but had no flavour at all.The barley in chicken soup was undercooked and bland beyond recognition. The fungus dessert was so cumbersome and lacking in finesse I felt like I was eating soup remains. The saga beef was nice but tough to cut.The ravioli was filled with tasty contents, cooked well but the pasta was too thick and thus undercooked due to poor judgment. The sommelier was wonderful. Evidently junior but he made great explanations of the wine, great discussions on wine and impressed me.The junior chef who perhaps maybe a sous or commis in my guestimation- Leonard I think has great potential but being in this kitchen with Chef Christopher does him no favors. He could learn much more elsewhere. Chef Vicky you better get your house back in order because this is terrible. The lack of heart, interaction, fun and wow factor like I remembered is beyond disappointing. …查看更多

Tasty German food!
Brotzeit German Bier Bar & Restaurant (形點 I)
2016-04-02
我们觉得是好好吃的德国菜:)My family and I have walked up to and walked away from Brotzeit in Yoho mall, Yuen Long, several times. Each time uncertain by the lack of customers and lack of expression and interaction from the staff. Finally today we succumbed to the need for hearty German food which we have missed and find lacking in the north of Hong Kong. Braving zero customers at the peak of lunchtime on a Saturday, we went in. Another family behind us followed us in, also looking hesitant. Both waitresses couldn't speak Chinese. Thankfully not a problem for us. We asked questions, ordered and thanked the polite but timid waitress. The other table, I think we're scared off by seeing this. They looked perhaps unable to speak English and promptly got up and walked out! The lunch deals board had some spelling mistakes and was not too clear on what was on offer. So it was good to talk with the waitress about things like: $68 salad meant any salad on the a la carte menu. Also that adding $10 meant choosing coffee like mocha and cappuccino instead of regular coffee. The starter was a lovely tomato stuffed with seasoned salad and ham and feta cheese. Would have been good to add olives and more feta but was really fresh and tasty anyway. The starter soup was also lovely and velvety. A decent potato and leek soup with good rye bread slices BUT no butter! Would be good to have a little butter next time. The main dish of sausages and roast potatoes were nice. Not bad for Hong Kong and the potatoes were well done. The sauces that came with the dish were plenty and complimented the food. It would be a good idea to offer mashed potato as HK people tend to like having a choice and the texture combination of soft with hard is popular in HK. Also historically we are used to the English sausage and mash concept and the familiarity helps sell to HK people. The main of seafood salad was great. Well seasoned and with a generous portion of smoked salmon, tuna, prawns, orange segments, grilled courgettes and olives. I'd come back again for this but am looking forward to try the other salads. The staff must know what are in the salads and should explain and sell this dish. This is really important as salad in HK can mean anything from just lettuce and salad cream to tinned fruit in salad cream. HK people in general, are not very educated when it comes to salads. Especially if in Yuen Long. All desserts are half price so we chose the dessert platter of Apple strudel, chocolate lava cake, chocolate icecream and pancakes. At $70 this was enough for 4 people! The icecream and chocolate lava cake were lovely. The strudel tasted ok but a squirt of ready whipped cream would have been great and familiar to HK people as this is the usual thing they expect and love. The pancakes had a lovely berry compote but honey or syrup would have made them amazing. With coffee, this dessert platter was a real treat and reminded us of being back in Europe again. It is important to note that HK people very much like to see if other people are in the restaurant before considering going in. A greeter at the door is very important to introduce the menu, specials and welcome/entice the customers in. We only found out about the $100 voucher and coupons upon paying. Brotzeit Yoho mall should have this in a poster at the door and the greeter should mention it. There is a lot of footfall above the restaurant in the main mall areas. There Is also a lot of restaurant competition upstairs. You should send some staff with Apple strudel samples up there to promote the restaurant downstairs. Maybe even hand out some vouchers. Just make sure you have the Apple strudel nice and buttery and crisp with decent cinnamon and apple taste. Not soggy and limp. Chinese, both mandarin and cantonese is essential for Yuen Long. The demographic is nearly all Chinese and most won't speak or read much English. I haven't checked but using social apps like Weixin and Wechat to advertise special offers will greatly enhance appeal to the Chinese. Discounts and offers are like gold to the Chinese. Deals like 'download Brotzeit app get 10% off first meal' will be really enticing to them. Or "dine with us and get $100 voucher" wow if they hear that, people will be queuing up! It is important to add food items like roast chicken, roast pork knuckle and lamb on the menu as the Chinese love these 'western' dishes. Please do get rid of spaghetti and meatballs from the lunch specials as hardly anyone will find that enticing. Just do a record check of the last 3 months and number of times this was ordered at the Yoho mall branch to get this confirmation. Also change the salad special to read 'choose any salad from the menu' and be sure to get a lot more takers. The restaurant next door is selling Mediterranean food and you have to watch out because they are strong competition. Your menu needs to compete and offer something different to them so you must check and do this. I wrote a review about their restaurant a few weeks ago on how great they were so you need to step up the game Brotzeit.I'm a big fan of German food and it would be a shame to see Brotzeit in Yoho mall close so soon after opening. The significant lack of customers scares me. The food was great and amazingly priced. We visited and were pleasantly surprised and will definitely return for the great food but I just hope the other locals will get it and dine there too.Ps - by the time we left, the restaurant was nearly full. Probably the first time we have seen this. Good luck and all the best Brotzeit!…查看更多
