We were so lucky to have been able to make a reservation at this restaurant before it became viral after a local YouTube channel featured this restaurant. I’ve never been to a place where it literally turned away 30 people during our dining time because of their full booking! Reading the other openrice reviews, it does seem like many have been disappointed at the slow response rate of the restaurant. However, I think we need to be understanding that it is a small family run restaurant which probably did not foresee the sudden increase in demand after being featured. Being able to diner here, we decided to go for all the specialty that was recommended. The set lunch was under $200 for an appetizer, main and a drink. Both of the mains we ordered - slow roasted free range chicken and slow-braised beef cheek had us finishing the dishes to the very last tiny bite. The sauce that accompanied the beef cheek was finished as though it was soup, it was that good!!!😍😍 I would seriously want to drink it as soup. At first, I wanted to try the foie gras with the apple that was highlighted as a signature dish, but it was unfortunately out of stock. We were still able to add on foie gras onto our mains, but thought it was nothing too special without that apple as a pairing that we really wanted to try! To end the meal, we pre-ordered the mao-tai cheesecake which also had a very interesting twist to it, combining local flavours with a basic western dessert. It reminded me of a rum raisin dessert. One of the best inMK!

Quite possibly one of the best Japanese restaurants in Mong Kok in my opinion! What makes me say this is that whilst the dishes itself may utilize very simple ingredients, they were of quality for sure. My favourites were both the Inaniwa udon with tofu skin, and the oyster stew. The chicken broth from the udon and buttery sauce with garlic from the oyster sauce made these dishes so warming. I reckon both are must orders as it just soothes you! The tuna sashimi was also nicely seared on the outside, paired with some chilli sauce that added a kick to it ! The green onions that it was served with was so nicely chopped as well, implying that the chefs at Shinko are definitely skilled.We also decided to give their tuna paper roll a try and their deep fried yams. Not commonly found in other Japanese restaurants so I really appreciated their creativity. In terms of drinks, I think the matcha latte was actually a must order - strong enough yet the milk they use is so tasty that doesn’t get overpowered by the matcha! What a flavourful experience

It was such a flavourful experience that I had here. I feel like there has been quite a few new Thai places popping up here and there, but not many can actually live up to the flavour profiles that Thai food uniquely has. Every dish we ordered were packed with herbs.As for the starters / snacks- we ordered the pork laarb salad, egg plan salad, soft shell crab and salted egg deep fried squid. My favourite had to be the pork laarb salad (full of herbs with a sour punch!) and their soft shell crab. The spices that they use match so perfectly, and you just want to keep eating and eating them! The boat noodles was also very heart warming. I added their own bottled spice as well and omg it was sooooo good. Surprisingly, their Thai iced coffee stole the show with such a nice presentation, and I was genuinely glad that we could opt for less sugar! Highly recommended if you’re on the island and wanting some authentic Thai food. (Also be ready to challenge your spice tolerance as their dishes are quite some 🌶️🌶️)…查看更多

Satisfying my Taiwanese cravings

I haven’t had Taiwanese food in a long time and always wanted to try this place ! It had all the dishes that I craved for - mala spiced chicken thighs and cheese toast, Taiwanese beef noodles and Taiwanese omelet with pork floss 😍 I particularly loved the strong beef bone broth from the noodles, which also was served piping hot. The noodles were cooked in an al dente way, not too hard nor too soft. The preserved vegetables on the side also added to the entire dish, as it helped to balance out the saltiness of the soup.The toast was a no brainer - the runny egg yolk just made the entire toast even juicier and to die for. It was quite special how the cheese was actually slightly sweet!Lastly, the Taiwanese omelette was BOMB. Pork floss is a must when it comes to this dish - totally adds another level of flavour and texture. There were so many people on a Friday night, so better go early if you want to try! …查看更多

Amazingly fresh seafood

I’m a sucker for these all you can eat hotpots, and I was soooo satisfied after visiting 阿爺八鮮鍋! I think the quality of their seafood definitely lives up to their restaurant name. When I knew that it was all you can eat, I honestly wasn’t expecting much of its seafood. However, I was gladly surprised at how fresh they were - the shrimps were dancing and abalone was moving so much 🤪 it also came with a variety of razor clam, eel, Chinese crunchy fish, crab, and we were delighted to try their lobster as well. I would recommend their coconut chicken soup base, as the sweetness brings out the freshness of the seafoods.At $368 +10%, there was actually a wide variety of food to choose from. Of course we got their angus beef which didn’t just taste like frozen meat but had a soft beef taste to it. I also loved their 蝦滑+墨魚滑,as the texture was just right. So extra but so yummy

One of the most extra Japanese don places I’ve been to, but it was so good! We ordered a don bowl each and a seared sushi roll. The seared sushi roll came with some 🔥🔥🔥 which at first I thought was extra, but we decided to torch our wagyu seared roll further which actually made the fat from the wagyu stand out even more 🤤 the garlic crisps accompanying it was also so flavourful. The two dons that we ordered - one with sashimi was so fresh, and the one with crab meat was packed with crab meat. Haven’t been cafe hopping in Hong Kong island until recently and stumbled upon this small yet cozy cafe. I was drawn by the dogs in the cafe to then give it a try 😛Was genuinely surprised to find that this cafe roasts their own coffee. My second time visiting this cafe and I was happy to see some new dishes for us to try! Their shakshuka was new on the menu and it looked so good on the photos. Though at $188, there was so much ingredients with it, and topped with 3 poached eggs that actually have egg yolk coming out of it. I wish I had a bowl of rice at that moment to scoff it all down 😆 I’ve tried their bento dishes before, but it was even yummier this time when I had their rice properly - have a bite, add some soup, taste it, add the egg. It felt so fun and each addition gave it a new profile!! The burger steak was also pretty good with the right amount of sauce and cheese placed on top 😜Lastly, the cheesecake was AMAZING. My nasi goreng cravings

I have always walked past this place but never tried it, until one day I was craving for some nasi goreng so we decided to give it a shot! What I love about nasi goreng is the flavourful spices and textures. Perhaps it was suited to HKer’s tastebuds, we could have an option for the spice level as well! The spice gives it a nice kick 🌶️ we got mild spice and it was just nice. The veggies that we got was also full of garlic and not overly oily. To satisfy my sweet tooth, we also got the Kaya toast and coconut milk with coconut milk 🥥 not sure if Kaya toast is Indonesian, but it was good nonetheless 🙌🏼 I was surprised that the restaurant offers “extra butter”, but to keep my cholesterols level low, we didn’t opt for it. Pleasantly surprised at all the dishes served at WAKARAN! We arrived early and waited for over an hour for our friend to arrive, but the restaurant was great to let us sit and devour some small bites whilst waiting. One of my favourites were their Anago crispy rice slider and sesame doughnut balls. The crispy rice slider had a quail egg inside of it, topped with tuna, uni and caviar. The sesame doughnut reminded me of those that tastes like 煎堆,so chewy with a great truffle cheese filling. As for the mains, the Wagyu beef charsiu glazed with mankua honey was another crowd pleaser. Soooo soft and tender, with a perfect marinade. Adding on, the ttebboki in vodka sauce was such a special dish. I have visited the branch in Tai Wo before and was largely impressed, so I decided to give this branch in Central a try. Safe to say, the quality matched up with the one I tried in Tai Wo!I was sooo impressed by the main course, it was definitely the highlight of the meal. When I saw that they had foie gras and beef tenderloin, and I only had to pay an extra of $38, I knew I would definitely be ordering that!!! The foie gras just melts in your mouth 🤤 so goooood.The next highlight was an add-on, which technically we could have ordered as a starter - their sea urchin toast. The sea urchin was so fresh, and the portion was super generous for its add-on price of $58! I would choose it as a starter next time, instead of adding $68 for their beef tartare 😛To end the meal, we got two lovely cocktails - their rainbow and own version of sangria, and also dessert of the day which was cheesecake! Glad it opened in Sha Tin

After years of bookmarking this place, I finally made it to Odelice, attracted by their brunch deal: just $95 for a starter, main, and drink! 😲 First up was the steak tartare croissant. This special starter was unlike anything I’ve encountered before. The buttery, flaky croissant cradled a perfectly seasoned steak tartare, balanced with hints of capers and a touch of Dijon mustard. Definitely left me craving more. 😍 The burrata served with plums was also creamy and rich, a perfect complement to the fresh ingredients. Next, we dove into the foie gras cocotte, which was nothing short of heavenly. The highlight of this dish was undoubtedly the roasted potatoes, which were perfectly crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. When dipped in the rich black truffle foie gras sauce, each bite was a luxurious experience that I can’t recommend enough. 🤭Our other main course was the lobster risotto. The rice soaked up all the lobster juices 😍 though I wish there could be a full lobster served so I can indulge in even more lobster meat!! To finish off our meal, we had their walnut brownie, a decadent treat that was rich and fudgy. Each bite was filled with chunks of walnuts, adding a delightful crunch to the otherwise soft texture. Paired with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, it was the perfect sweet ending to our brunch.Overall, Odelice exceeded my expectations, and I’m already planning my return visit to explore more of their menu. I recently indulged in their beef bone soup, and it was a comforting bowl of rich, savory goodness that warmed me up during the cold weekend. I particularly loved the bits that also had some soft bone cartilage attached to it. The vermicelli was also extra chewy and was so yummy paired with their broth!! The cold noodles with hot sauce were the perfect balance of refreshing and spicy, a delightful twist that left my taste buds dancing! 🌶️🥒a must order for me at any Korean restaurants. However, it was my first time being given vinegar and mustard to eat with it, and it was a unique experience! And let’s not forget the stir-fried soondae sausage—crispy, flavorful, and utterly irresistible! New found gem!

My love for mai seen is real, and I think I have found myself another option when I’m craving it, but a less oily version for sure! The signature chicken with fish maw is a must order. The fact that the broth is constantly heated with a pot just makes the entire dish more heartwarming and delicious 🫶 it was like eating tsukumen, as they served the bowl of noodles separately without any soup. Surprisingly the chicken was chicken leg for me, which is my favorite part of a chicken.The other bowl of noodles we ordered were sweet and sour vegetables and pepper soup served with pig stomach. This dish is also worth a try if you like this kind of broth, the pig stomach was generous in portion.Lastly, I was surprised that you can get deep fried Japanese rice cake with cheese here 😆don’t know about the relevance but it was yummy for sure 🙌🏼 I’m so glad I came for an early dinner on a weekday. Finally tried it!!!

I have always eyed this restaurant’s promotion of its multi flavored xiaolongbaos but can’t believe it has taken me so long to finally give it a try!!!!The xiaolongbaos were very interesting, as they had an array of flavours and you honestly can’t find those flavours at any other Shanghainese restaurants in HK. My favourites were the foie gras one and the cheese!!! So special with hints of these flavours in it. Dandan noodles is a must order for me at any Shanghai restaurants. I was expecting more soup when the fish was first served, but the fact that there wasn’t an overwhelming amount of soup meant that the noodles itself would not have been overcooked, and the broth itself was actually pretty spicy 😅 I always love a good combo of peanuts with the noodles hehe. The deep fried mangas is a guilty pleasure for sure. Nothing beats drenching it in condensed milk!!! To top our sweet tooth, we also got the tong yuens.
