Food. Food was mediocre for the price. We had a soft shelled crab salad, pad Thai, and grouper fish steamed in a bed of Thai herbs. The crab was very good, but the grouper fish was a bit gross. Pad Thai was average. Pricing. They also have a minimum charge per guest ($400 per person) that they don’t state upfront. Cleanliness. The dishes that we had at first were dirty. Habitu in YOHO mall is a chic cafe, despite being a branch. Their menu includes breakfast items served all day and a small assortment of pastas, with a smattering of other snacks. The food offered is a step up from an ordinary coffee shop, but falls short of restaurant quality. Their prosciutto eggs benedict, for instance, uses prosciutto ham with a darker discolouration that shows it’s evidently left out for longer than it should’ve been. Nevertheless, Habitu has very unique offering of lattes, including a turmeric latte that has pulled me back time after time, that make up for the otherwise lacklustre food. This is a local favorite, and rightfully so. Modern, lavish decor with dim lighting and candlelit tables create an atmosphere that invite you to relax. Their menu consists mainly of pastas and some fusion foods, like a soft-shelled crab fettuccine and eel burger, which are nicely done. An underrated gem in Hong Kong. Excellent service by our server, Sammy, who was polite, generous, and accommodating. The food was great. I’m very impressed that the restaurant makes everything from scratch — their burgers, their fries, and even their BBQ and ketchup sauces, which are delicious and taste natural without much added sugars. The burgers are cooked to perfection: juicy, flavourful, and a nice mild char on the sides that capture more of the flavour. Their fries are home-made, -cut, and -fried. I recommend the sweet potato fries with BBQ sauce. My only reservation is that they don’t always have everything on the menu, such as their potato gratin and veggie mushroom burger, which they lack the ingredients for or run out of rather quickly.
