Disgusting Food, Disgusting Service
唐宮中餐廳
2020-11-10
I've been here a number of times, but the most recent one was horrendous beyond measure. They used to be a lot better. I cannot speak for the dinner menu, but our experience during lunch hours would require borrowing your hands as well, because face palming with two hands isn't sufficient to show the distasteful dissatisfaction I have for this restaurant. Of course, most people come here for dim sum isn't expecting extravagant dishes, but somewhere that is easy to book, and family friendly to bring young and old family members for a lunch gathering. Though that doesn't relinquish my perspectives of their food's quality. I'd be direct, most of the dim sums here are average. As long as they're acceptable, I really wouldn't be asking for too much. Unfortunately they made 3 big mistakes on our visit. I truly hope it is an isolated incident. 1. Carrot strips Cake (蘿蔔絲梳餅): Tasted horrendous. The carrots were supposed to be stripped to small pieces for aesthetics and taste, but it failed to do either. It's like a blob of carrot inside.2. Crispy Fried Eel Part 1 (脆善): Can't find the full name for this dish. Not only was it not crispy, as the name suggests, its frighteningly cold. It's as if it was made for a previous customer, and given to us due to some complications with them. We let the waiter know of this, and hoped for a new dish. We're not asking for much, just give us something that is hot and crispy as the name says. Yet the waiter suggested we cancel it. Thus we agreed on that option instead.3. Crispy Fried Eel Part 2 (脆善): We asked for the bill when we were done only to be charged for the crispy eel. No matter, we let the waiter know of the situation that her colleague has canceled it for us already. It should be simple logistics to talk it through with your colleague first before giving accusations. Not only were we accused of lying, but they outright refused it. This hassle took quite some time to resolve. I'm actually quite shocked at such appalling service. It has definitely caught me off guard. 4. One minor thing that you may find interesting. Most Dim Sum restaurants have chili sauce provided. Usually these chili sauce comes with the oil itself and mashed up chili accompanied with it. This hotel restaurant only offers chili oil without chili bits. I consider this a game changer and a little disappointing. This is probably the first Dim Sum restaurant I have been that only offers the chili oil. I can't even call this restaurant a Chinese restaurant anymore. I don't know what it is. Overall it was a traumatizing experience. Most of the foods were average. A few outright horrible ones. No service whatsoever. Sure, you may say it's a great venue for families since its easy to book. Well, I'm not going to sacrifice taste and service for a bit of comfort. I can't speak for the dinner menu, but if the service is similar to the afternoon, I'd shy away from this restaurant at all costs.  …查看更多

Clean, decent decoration, good service, great food
醉潮館

I wonder if I'm the only English comment here. No matter, here goes nothing. For non Tsuen Wan locals, this restaurant is tucked away in a hidden back street glittered with at least a dozen other restaurants, loud rattles of beer bottles, cheers and laughers from customers seated on tables along the streets; it certainly brings back memories to the good old days of Hong Kong. Yet this restaurant was different. It was located at one of the corners, a little quieter, cleaner, unsuspecting, and well managed. Upon entering, it gives off a very old school Chinesey feel. The walls stapled with fake-brick wallpapers. Wooden tables and wooden chairs, makes one reminiscent of the elegence of our city's culture. Our group consisted of 5 people, as we excitedly over-ordered everything. Enticed to try everything on the menu. Pepper Pig's stomach soup (白果胡椒豬肚湯): Very flavourful. Mouthful of goodness that warms the body up straight away. Perfect soup for a cold autumn or winter's evening. No complaints here.Pigeon in a cage (紅燒籠中BB鴿子): It's appearance was quite delightful. Tastes decent, but probably not the best ones in town. Still a great dish.Duck egg Oyster Pancake (傳統鴨蛋煎蠔烙): This tastes different from the typical oyster pancakes you'd get. There was more flavor, more texture, without the deep-fried bits overwhelming your palate. Just enough of the batter, oyster, and eggs, sprinkled with garnishes on top for beauty.Small Boiled Clams (砂鍋卜卜蜆煲): It came with a gas stove below, as you watch them slowly pop open one by one. Quite the entertainment. The first few were tremendous, but a number of them turned out full of sand inside. Unfortunately that was a slight disappointment. Deep fried Squid (椒鹽鮮魷): Very tasty. Came out extremely fast too. Not too much batter. Dip it in some soy sauce or chili brings out the senses even more. Wasabi Beef Ribs (芥末牛仔粒): Harmonic combination of fats and proteins, with a generous blob of mayonnaise on top. This dish was pretty much gone within 5 minutes. Melts in your mouth as you bite them, and the mayonnaise keeps your palate guessing. Boneless Chicken feet (無骨雞腳上上簽): I found this alluring, but most of my group considered it a little too spicy. If you're adequately equipped with strong palates, I'd definitely recommend this one. Though the amount of sauce might be a little overwhelming. Simply scrape off excess sauces before consumption.Beer and Beer bowls: Can't go wrong here. A great way to boost atmosphere and an even greater way to drink beer. Overall it's one of the top notch Chinese restaurants in Hong Kong, for the price range. Definitely recommend. The food came extremely fast, the waitress was polite and caring, even moving us to a bigger table when plausible. I'd urge you to consider venturing here for some local flavours once in a while. …查看更多

Outback Steakhouse (東薈城名店倉)
2020-11-10
Tucked in the corners of Citygate mall in Tung Chung, one could luxuriate to the soft breezes below the autumn sun, as this Outback Steakhouse provides a delightful half-scenic outdoor terrace that caters to a good dozen or so tables. It was our first choice, but subsequently surrendered to the midday sun, reverting to the comforts of air conditioning and televised political elections (most definitely preferred to watch the game instead). Don’t choose the round tables if your group has 4 or more, go for the unexciting movable rectangular tables instead. More spacious and a safer bet. After being seated, we were handed the menu, which may I dare say, didn’t have as many choices as I thought. (it could be due to lunch vs. dinner menus being different. Not sure) I’ll cut right to the chase. The service was excellent. Our waiter was thoughtful, well mannered, and attentive for refills and minor requests we may have. You know what you’re getting into when you come into a restaurant like this. High fat, high carbs, high calories. As such, it does the job perfectly. Mouthful of onions wrapped in flour and eggs batter, deep fried to perfection, sprinkled with a layer of spices and condiments; may I present to you, the Onion Blossom. Dip that beauty into a proprietary salivating sauce, as it provides the most harmonic embrace you’d feel all week till the guilt from over-consumption sinks in. Or devour those baby back ribs. Rip those juicy proteins from their bones. Watch them slide out without muchhesitation, as those babies were cooked in just the right temperature and duration. Sink your canines in them, feel it melt under your palate bringing you the savory spark at each bite. Flavorful and delicious, enticing and promiscuous to all dishes (except salads haah). Down those low density lipoproteins with a big gulp from your desired beverage. Need I say more. Take a break from your rigorous shopping schedule and indulge yourself with some diabetes once in a while. I rest my case. …查看更多

Mad for Garlic
2020-05-02
Frivolous as one does, we found ourselves returning to this establishment for our fix of garlic induced coma, and shall I say, a tad bit of madness that comes with it. Conveniently located within the depths of the mall named after 2020’s cancelled sports tournament, the familiar dim lighted yet inviting interior brings one’s memories drifting towards the inevitable. The smell of this native Siberian herb entices your mouths to salivate. If such manoeuvres were that of the restaurant, I shall applaud their excellent strategical execution to elevate our desires for yet another endorsement for caloric overconsumption. Though not everything was rainbows and butterflies. The first slight deviation from perfection occurred at the moment we were seated. Perhaps we were nit-picking on the details, but the seats felt a little high for the table. (The sofas were fine) I shan’t place such tremendous emphasis on trivial matters; preferably an afterthought, nothing could ruin our battle against anorexia tonight. Furthermore, I shall add a disclaimer: this might have more significance to a self-proclaimed tall person like yours truly, and may be much more comfortable for most. Our carbohydrate heavy dinner commenced. The first dish to be reviewed was the Garlic Carbonara, with extra grated cheese on the side at our request. The aromas from the garlic and cheeses combined in the most harmonic way as it enters your senses, suggestively tempting you to forget your basic table etiquette. We were about a garlic clove away from forgetting our duty as food detectives with the responsibility of millions (or more realistically just one) at our hands to review the most exotic cuisines presented to us. Let me get to the point; the camera always gets the first bite. Once the ritual had ended, we stuffed our palate as elegantly as plausible after the excruciating wait. The creamy flavours echoes inside your mouth as the textures continue to excite you further with the crunchiness of bacon, followed by the gentle tenderness of the vampire killing herb cooked to a crisp on one side, and still mushy on the other. The mixture of its complexity satisfies and opens all of your receptors to embrace diabetes with open hands if this was the reason for it. Though one may need to ask themselves if this creamy goodness really was worth dying for? After the initial flavorous textures overwhelmed our taste buds, we were brought back to earth with more realistic expectations. Its creaminess was too prominent. Some may consider such traits as advantageous, but we felt it started to envelope all the other flavours of the pasta. Of course, it is pretty hard to go wrong with carbonara, which was precisely the reason why we had to hold it at a higher standard. Presentation: 7.5Aroma: 8.5Taste: 8Texture: 7Value: 7.5The Garlic Steak was the next dish to be reviewed. I have no evidence of this, but it felt that the steak had decreased in size compared with our last visit. Due to such circumstances, our medium-rare order was overcooked (it was medium-well). I do applaud the restaurant’s manager for his excellency; replacing the dish with a new one of acceptable quality. The second one came out medium, but we felt really bad to change it again, thus medium it was. You could tell it was coming simply from its sizzling music from afar. The dish was served with sliced onions on the bottom, a thin slice of steak in the middle, and followed by a very generous glitter of fried garlic on top, such a beauty has all the qualifications necessary for any pageant. It was not accompanied with any sauces or dips, which did lead us to ponder on its dryness. No flowery words here, it tasted mediocre at best. Its only saving grace was the generous dose of fried garlic on top, yet it still fails to provide the complexity of flavours one may expect from a juicy medium-rare steak. Its presentation was that which makes one reminiscent of old Hong Kong style cheap local steakhouses that served steak on a metal plate. Which unfortunately begs the comparison between the two, despite its huge price disparity. Presentation: 7Aroma: 8Taste: 6.5Texture: 7Value: 6Fear not my reader(s), there is a happy ending to all of this. The last dish reviewed was their Garlic Snowing Pizza. Thin crusted, silky creamy goodness, medium-sized shrimp, another generous pampering of fried garlic sprinkled from atop, coated with a final layer of grated cheese for flavour and satisfaction. #TeamNoCarbs must wait, I would not miss this for the world. Its aromas were not as strong as the other two dishes, though it just gravitates you towards it ever so gently, baiting you with all its glory. At the first bite, your teeth touches the softness of the cheese and creamy sauces, before adventuring into the crispy and crunchy tenderness of the pizza dough and fried garlic. This was the complex flavourness I had always been after. The creamy savoury texture with a hint of sweetness, the warm half melted cheese and perfectly cooked shrimp along with the crunchy pizza crust, and the strong tastes of fried garlic all triggering your satiety senses at once with no regard to your mental wellbeing; with the sole objective to bombard your delicate palate with stupendous and staggering complexity. Presentation: 8Aroma: 6.5Taste: 9Texture: 9Value: 9Lastly, Mad for Garlic has great service and hospitality. It’s a wonderful place for you and your significant other(s), decent for groups, but average for kids and ex-wives. All the best. …查看更多
