Minions cupcake decoration!
Twinkle Baker Decor
2013-12-18
Thanks so much for Twinkle Baker Decor‘s invitation for this minions cupcake decoration workshop & tasting!! I LOVE the minions in the Despicable Me movie! They are cute & funny! So, it’s a delightful process to watch the decoration came into form.I have tried decoration on cupcakes with fondant before & believe me it’s not the most easiest job ever! Luckily, it’s just a demonstration cupcake decoration workshop, which we didn’t have to do the decoration work ourselves! The store isn’t very big with a big table in the middle as the use of the workshop.Upon arrival to the store, all the colorful products, cakes, cupcakes, cookies decorations are so beautiful! The products are arranged in rainbow color!A recipe of the vanilla cupcakes that used for the decoration was also provided by Twinkle Baker Decor. Before the demo started, the staff explained there was a tray of utensils that would be used for the decoration processes.Below are the process of the cupcake decoration:Glasses1) Roll out a grey color fondant2) Cut 4 circles out from the grey fondant, then cut another circles inside it.3) Roll the grey fondant into 4 x bean size shape & cut 3 insertion on it4) Brush on some sliver sparkleEyes1) Roll out a white fondant & cut out 4 circles to be part of the minions’ eyes2) Roll out the fondant & cut out the circles to be part of the minions’ eyes color (brown for minion, purple for evil minion)Face1) Measure the size of the cupcake (using the cutter) to be able to cut out the right size that will be the face of the minions2) Cut out the fondant (yellow for minion, purple for evil minion) using the cutter & smooth out the edges by handAssemble1) Stick some “hair” onto the cupcakes2) Stick the glasses, eyes & mouth onto the cupcakesAND!! the decoration is done!!Is it cute?! Even though the fondant is edible, the staff said the cupcake & the fondant has been used multiple times for demonstration. So, it’s best not to be been eaten.Luckily, Twinkle Baker Decor has arranged some mini cupcakes for us! Both of the mini cupcakes were really moist & not too sweet, which was perfect! At first, I thought it would be quite sweet because of the icing on top. But it’s surprisingly nice!!! The mini cupcakes is also available to be purchase in store! 6 pieces for $96, 12 pieces for $180 & 20 pieces for $280.In the end of the decoration & tasting workshop, Twinkle Baker Decor has a selection of sprinkle shape/ pearl beads as a gift to us!! I chose the beautiful pink pearl beads!!! Thanks Twinkle Baker Decor for special gift!! It’s really a nice experience & fruitful decoration workshop!…查看更多

Jazz
HMV Kafe
2013-12-16
As I have heard before that HMV has crossover with The Coffee Academics to open a cafe. Coffee & music has an inseparable relationship. So, it makes perfect sense they open a cafe together.I have lunch with family & relatives around Central last weekend to celebrate my birthday. After the gathering, I went to check out the HMV Kafe nearby. The Central branch is located inside the Entertainment Building.A big ads showing HMV Kafe is located on 3/F. The classic HMV logo of a dog appears on the ads.The logo of HMV is a dog & the logo of the HMV Kafe is a dog holding a cup of coffee!!! So cute! After going up the escalator, the cafe is located on the right side in HMV. There are some indoor seats around the cafe. The cakes & sandwich are placed in front of the cashier. Customers can clearly can the baristas working & making coffee with the machines & the coffee equipments. The door on the right side of the cafe leads to the outdoor area. Since it's winter, seems no one is sitting outside. All the cakes & the sandwiches were really tempting, but I ate a really full birthday lunch with family & relatives. So I just ordered a cup of coffee. They have a really special section on the menu that drink are inspired by music! Jazz is the first drink on the list, which was inspired by La Vie En Rose by Louis Armstrong. Everyone should listen this song! Such a beautiful song! Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8IJzYAda1wAThe cup of coffee was served on a sliver plate, a spoon & a small glass of water. The coffee was decorated with some beautiful purple pink rose petals on some cream. It looked really elegant & classic just like the song of La Vie En Rose!Since HMV crossover with The Coffee Academics to open this cafe shop, so of course there is the name of The Coffee Academics on the coffee cup.La Vie En Rose....so obviously this coffee should be in rose flavored. The taste of this coffee was a bit too sweet for my liking. The rose flavor was pretty strong & the cream was in vanilla flavor. So rose & vanilla together will definitely be sweet. Of course I can still taste the flavor of the espresso, but this drink was kind of more about the rose & vanilla! Luckily, the waitress served the coffee together with the small glass of water. So I can wash off the excessive sweetness in my mouth. This coffee itself matchs perfectly with the name "Jazz" & the song "La Vie En Rose", but just a bit too sweet to me in term of taste. I think I'll try out their other drink or the food in the future. Nonetheless, the environment is really nice, leisure & cozy with the music around! :)…查看更多

Free topping & Matcha Affogato
Via Tokyo
2013-12-12
I have been to Via Tokyo for 2 times already...actually more than 2 times. But there were a few times I went there with friends, but the queue was just too long! :( So we left in sadness & dissatisfaction.Recently I saw quite a lot of pictures on Facebook & Instagram about their winter special, Matcha Affogato! It's an off menu item at the moment & people can order it as long as they like Via Tokyo's Facebook page or follow their Instagram account.I saw the update on their Facebook page on 8 Dec that they are celebrating 1000 likes on their Facebook page. So they are going to reward the fans with one free topping for any dessert item on Monday 9/12 and Tuesday 10/12. What the customers need to do is just show the staffs at Via Tokyo that they like their Facebook page.Since I had tasting on Tue (10/12) at Causeway Bay, so I went there earlier to get the free topping & to try out the matcha affogato.I arrived the shop around 6:30pm. I WAS SO SURPRISE TO SEE THAT I DON'T HAVE TO QUEUE AT ALL!!!! OH MY GOD!! LUCKY!!! I chose the free topping to be the crispy rice cracker bites. I want to choose something simple to go with it, so just ordered the plain matcha ice cream. Also, of course I ordered the matcha affogato. AND! The staff looked at me like some kind of weirdo to eat that much! I'm aware that it's a bit too much too, especially I ate it before the tasting. hehehe....The staff triple confirmed with me that I want to order both of it!!I sat down at one of the high table (I still find their high chairs really hard to sit on, may be it's just my height!).The matcha ice cream with free topping (crunchy rice cracker bites) came first. The syrup served up separately in a small jar as usual. Their matcha ice cream is still as solid as the first time I ate it. The matcha ice cream is more toward the bitter side, but it's still acceptable. The rice cracker bites has a crunchy texture & it's nice to mix together with the creamy matcha ice cream. The syrup added a hint of sweetness & balance out some of the bittiness from the ice cream.Within 5 minutes, I have already finished the ice cream. So the waitress served up the matcha affogato.Affogato is usually a coffee-based beverage, included a scoop of vanilla ice cream with a shot of espresso. But in this case it's a matcha-based dessert! Overdosed of greenness! I expected it to be double the matcha flavor.I tried to take a picture when I poured the hot matcha in, but failed & made a mess around! I saw lots of reviews about their utensil wasn't very suitable for pouring & they actually changed the utensil to improve it. But I still made a mess! So instead of the pouring shot, I just took a picture after I have poured the hot matcha in.Since their matcha ice cream is pretty solid, so it didn't melt immediately after the hot matcha was poured in. It tasted really strong in matcha flavor, almost a bit too bitter. But whoever is a matchaholic should totally try this!! …查看更多

Caramello Series
2/3 Dolci
2013-12-08
I have been to 2/3 Dolci 2 times. I think their gelato is really one of the best in town! :) So, when I heard they have the new caramel series before, of course I have to pay them a visit! Before me & my friends tried out the caramel cakes, gelato first is the way to go!!!!We chose 3 flavors: signature pistachio, peach & fig sorbet.Their pistachio gelato is still as good as heaven!! So rich & creamy!!! The peach gelato was very smooth & peachy. Just hoping some peach flesh would appear in it though! The texture of the fig sorbet was interesting! There were real fig seeds in the gelato, which is so unexpected! For the caramel series,The caramel chiffon cake looked just like their 'Very berry chiffon cake'. The chiffon cake was covered with a layer of caramel flavored cream with a chocolate art piece of top. The chiffon cake was light & spongy! However, the caramel cream wasn't in a strong caramel flavor. The caramel flavor was pretty subtle! It's still a nice cake, but I won't go for it the second time. The caramel flavor in the caramel cheesecake was a lot stronger compare to caramel chiffon cake. It wasn't too sweet or too heavy. It's just right amount of balance of caramel & cream cheese. It looked elegant & delicate with a white chocolate art piece on top. After the gelato & the 2 caramel cakes, me & my friend seems still not satisfied! So, we ordered another cake, which I heard it's their signature cake as well! I want to try it last time!!The 8 layers was very clear & easy to identify. Well...you know! Some layer cakes appear to be meshed up all together & can't see which is which layers. But they did a really good job in layering this cake. :) The cake was alternated layers of sponge cakes, guava jelly, guava ganache, and guava mousse. It looked very pretty with red & pink colors. It tasted in strong guava flavor, but not too sour or too artificially sweet. No wonder it's their signature cake apart from the pistachio one.…查看更多

Portobello Cheese Burger & Twister Prawn
Burgeroom
2013-11-28
Burger & chips! Who wouldn't love it?! Went there one night for dinner. I really didn't expect that much of people!!! :( I only heard that the space of the store is small & narrow. I lined up around 20 mins for a seat!!!! This really tested my patience! After I got a seat on the side at the bar table, there were still full of people in the restaurant. Since I have lined up a long time in front of the store, I have already made up my mind what I want to order. I always love Portobello!! Big & juice mushroom! So, I have ordered Portobello Cheese Burger!!!I have waited around another 10 minutes before my order arrived. As expected the portobello was SO juicy!!!!!! One thing I didn't expect was the size of the burger. It's HUGE!!!!! The beef patty was thick, meaty & juicy too!!!The burger has already been cutted into half when it was served up. Once I took out the toothpick, the burger was collapsing, since there were so many things (portobello, beef patty, tomato, lettuce, cheese) sandwiched between the bun. The juice from the portobello was running all around my hand when I was eating it. What a messy scene! After I finished the burger, I was already quite full! Since I have underestimated the size of the burger, I have already ordered a side dish! There were 5 twister prawn per serving. It was hot when it's served, obviously it's freshly fried! But since I was already so full after the burger, I just finished 2 of it! :( In term of taste, the twister was crispy! But the prawn was actually quite small, almost of the filling inside was just some sort of dough mixture. But I guess can't really expect too much with the size of the prawn these days! But I believe it's a perfect side dish together with some soft drink or even beer!! I'll definitely go back for the burger, but may be not the twister prawn.…查看更多

Matcha gathering with new friends!! :)
川善茶居
2013-11-24
Sinmei Tea...I learned about this place a few years back on Openrice. So curious that I have to come here to check it out & afterward I just keep on coming again & again. For one, I just can't resist on their matcha dessert & drinks. Also, the small & cozy environment (well...may be not at the busy hour!) But at least people can just chill with no one disturb.I'm really honored to be invited to this friends gathering by Lemon Tea! :) Met a few friends like IVY, Moanna & Missjans.Let's start our matcha journey from drink:The popular drink usually are Matcha Soul, Matcha Show White. This time I would like to try something different. Matcha & hot chocolate is a nice combination. I don't know why it took me so long to try it! It served hot with wipped cream on top. It has a strong matcha & chocolate aroma. It first came with matcha flavor in my mouth then chocolate flavor came afterward. I think this drink is perfect for winter!! :) I would never get bored with this matcha angle cake!! The quality of this cake is consistent, which is fluffy, light & moist every time I eat it. The light green matcha cream & those osmanthus sprinkle on top make the cake looks more delicate. The matcha cheese cake is another matcha item on menu that I would order again & again. Buttery biscuit base with strong matcha flavor cheese cake. Compare this to the matcha cheesecake of Teakha, Sinmei Tea one is more solid. But it's not too hard that it'll break your fork! The first time I ate this banana toffee cake was the small piece inside the afternoon tea set. Last time I ate it, I felt the cake was a bit dry on its own. This time it served up together with vanilla ice cream!! Tasted so much better with ice cream! The banana toffee cake was moist & soft. The matcha loaf cake was a bit not up to standard this time. It's a bit dry, but still with strong matcha flavor though.Matcha feast!!!! Full table of cakes & drinks! After some cakes & drinks, we were still craving for some more matcha!! So, we ordered the matcha lava cake. It's still the most delicious matcha lava cake I have eaten anywhere so far!!!! The matcha lava inside the cake just oozed out from the center when we cutted it opened. The cake has a crunchy exterior. It's perfect to go with the vanilla ice cream!NEW ITEMS!!!Sinmei Tea now offers another flavor for the lava cake. Hojicha is roasted green tea flavor. Same with the matcha version, it's served up with vanilla ice cream. When we cutted it open, the hojicha lava in the middle didn't oozed out immediately like the matcha one. The texture of the hojicha lava was thicker. In term of taste, the flavor of hojicha was there, but still I prefer to the original matcha version! They also offers the loaf cake in hojicha flavor too! In the contrary of the lava cake, I love the hojicha version of the loaf cake more than the original matcha one. May be it's because the matcha loaf cake was a bit dry this time. The texture of the hojicha loaf cake was soft, moist & strong in hojicha flavor! When it first served up, it looks like chocolate loaf cake though, 'cause it's in brown color! haha..We were pretty full after all this. BUT!!!! Out of the sudden, we saw Matthew!!!!!! We were all so stars trucked!! Matthew is actually engineering graduate turned pastry chef. He consigns his own pastries sometimes at Sinmei Tea. If you are lucky, you will meet him in person & try his pastry! SPECIAL ITEM!Chocobananamel means chocolate x banana x caramel. The cake consists of hazelnut feuillentine, choc sponge, banana caramel, 40% milk chocolate mousse, Caramélia ganache, coffee crumble, Frangelico jelly and chocolate leaf. Such a beautiful creation!! It's in strong chocolate flavor, a hint of banana flavor came through in the caramel. The size of it was pretty small, looked very delicate! It's really a nice gathering with some new friends. Hope more gatherings are coming up! …查看更多

Fruit Matcha Soft Serve Shiratama Anmitsu
Via Tokyo
2013-11-12
2nd visit to Via Tokyo! When I visited this time, there were no crowd standing around inside the shop & waiting for seats. Instead there was a long quene outside the shop! I believe they has some experiences now & has improved on how to manage the flow of the customers, which make the service better. The last visit was quite confusing, 'cause a lot of people was standing inside the shop. I didn't know they were waiting for seats or waiting for take away. Just didn't have any direction whatsoever! But this time was much better service!! I waited around 15mins for the seat, just like last time! Again!! I need quite some time to figure out what I want to order, since there are some many choices on the menu.I heard people said their anmitsu (あんみつ) is pretty nice, so this time I chose one that have almost everything in it! This big bowl of anmitsu was served up together with a small jar of syurp. Their matcha soft serve is still as good as heaven! There were lots of jelly on the bottom, they didn't have any taste at all. So, it's best to eat togather with the matcha soft serve. There were some different color of mochi, which tasted chewy. On the top there were some fruits (kiwi, banana, strawberry, orange) that looked very colorful!! :) It's tasted wonderful together with the matcha soft serve.A big scoop of red bean paste in the middle, which is a perfect combination with matcha! I had this as the dessert after dinner, imagine how full I'm after this! But it's surely a sweet ending of the day! :)…查看更多

Okome Shiratama Matcha Soft Serve (おこめ白玉抹茶ソフト)
Nice afternoon tea on a small local cafe
幸福小路
2013-11-11
I don’t really come to North Point too often. North Point to me..it’s just a MTR transit station from Kowloon to Hong Kong Island side. One time my friend suggested this dessert place after brunch! Since I have never been here before, so…just give it a go! :)Clover cake & coffee house isn’t too far away from the MTR station, just around 10 minutes walking distant. The main entrance of the place looks really sweet & lovely, like a small localized cafe in the neighborhood. The cafe is tidy & clean inside with around 5-6 tables, which can accommodate for 20 people max. The staffs are nice & friendly! :) There are menu on the table of the cashier before ordering. There are drinks menu on the top of the kitchen area. All the cakes are placed next to the cashier. Different colors from all those cakes are so beautiful & cheerful for a weekend dessert after brunch!Since we were 3 of us, we bought 4 cakes to share.First up was Passion Fruit Mango cake!! The yellow color is so bright, which made people happy!! :) The taste was very refreshing & light. The taste of the passion fruit was sour, but it’s balanced out from the sweetness of mango. We were all pretty surprise when we cutted the cake open, ’cause there were some mango slides in the cake!!!! So thoughtful!!! Green tea couldn’t pass our eyes!!!! We have to order something in green tea if we saw it!!!! The green tea flavor wasn’t that strong, but the cake was smooth & just the prefect amount of sweetness.Haru…it’s a spring seasonal special, but it’s still available now. It’s consists layers of green tea, earl grey and blackcurrant with a macaron on top. In term of taste, it didn’t really scream ‘SPRING!’ to me , but this one tasted nice though. The green tea & earl grey layers were perfect, but I’m not really a fans of blackcurrant. I love the color combination, which looks very much like spring! Chocolate!!! Another thing can’t pass our eyes other than green tea. A layer of chocolate ganache coated the chocolate mousse & the chocolate sponge cake inside. The middle of the cake is a layer of fresh orange velvet with orange flavored liqueur. The base of the cake is made out of crunchy cereal, which added a different texture to the airy chocolate mousse.Chocolate & orange is always combination in dessert, some people like it; some people don’t. In this case, the chocolate has a really nice balance with the orange flavor. So, I’ll definitely order it again!According to my friends, lots of people order greea tea latte there. But I want to try something different, so I ordered cinnamon latte. I love cinnamon, so I found it quite nice. The latte wasn’t too sweet or too bitter, just perfect to go with the cakes. …查看更多

Sizzling spicy chicken pot & healthy hot pot
陸陸雞煲火鍋
2013-11-11
It's really a pleasure to be invited to try the chicken pot here at 66 Hot Pot last week!! It isn't exactly winter yet, but definitely can feel it's on the way!The day we went here for dinner was a pretty cool night with rain! So, it's perfect to have some hot sizzling chicken pot & hot pot!! WooHoo!!!!! Before we ate, the waiters brought up a big plate of seasoning. Classic scene in a hot pot shop! Just mix it all up together!!!The main theme for this dinner was chicken pot! To be honest, I never try one before! So, this was my first time! When the waiter brought up the chicken pot, the smell was so strong that even without the lid been opened. The owner of the shop explained that the chicken still need to be cooked a min or so to be ready! When the lid was opened, the sizzling sound & the smell just pull everyone off our seats & kept flashing it with their cameras! It's just so tempting! The chicken pot wasn't too spicy though, since we ordered the spicness to be mild only. But when I started to eat my 2nd bowl of chicken, I can feel the numbness of my lip & tongue.Since I can't take it if it's too spicy, this one was almost perfect. I think it can be even a bit more spicer. The chicken was juicy & tender. The sauce was very flavorsome. However, it just started to get a bit too salty after a while, so have to drink something to wash it off. Overall, their chicken pot was pretty good, but just a bit too salty. After everyone finished with the chicken pot, the waiter poured some hot water in it to become a hot pot! The remaining sauce will add flavor to the soup base. They also offers a more healthy option for the hot pot soup base, in case anyone who doesn't really eat spicy food. We have ordered the healthy tomato corn beef brisket soup base for hot pot. It's very thoughful & considerate of them. :) See!!!! Hot pot can be healthy too! The tomato taste of the soup was very strong. Now off the hot pot ingredients!!!!Meat: The first one on the top of the picture was the hot pot beef, which was hand slided by the chef. It's thin & the fat was distributed evenly on the piece of meat. It's just like the normal hot pot beef that a minute would be enough for it to cook through. The meat in the middle of the picture was the beef brisket that came with the tomato corn soup base. It's really yum to eat with the tomato!! It's not the softest beef I have ever eat, but it's still alright. The last one in the picture was the premium beef scapula, which is the shoulder meat on the beef. The fat was distributed evenly, so the taste of it was smooth. It doesn't taste fatty at all. I believe this one was the best out of all three we have tried.Seafood:The top left picture was 2 types of mussels: osmanthus freshwater mussel & coral freshwater mussel. I seldom order this type of mussel for hot pot, just don't know why. But it tasted nice & fresh, not chewy at all after it was cooked. 'Cause I always have this impression that the texture will become chewy if overcooked. The top right picture was also the normal mussel, but it's bigger than usual!! It's from Hiroshima, Japan. It's succulent, meaty & fresh! The last one was the clam. It tasted fresh but just like those normal one, nothing really speical.Balls:The long plate on the left side of the picture was 6 different types of balls: prawn, cuttlefish, lobster, pork, beef & cheese. I didn't get to try all 6 types, I just tried the one in black color. The 2nd long plate on the top right of the picture was just cuttlefish balls. Squid ink was added to make it black. The last one was fish pasta, which was same with the cuttlefish balls that squid ink was added to make it black. I couldn't taste any squid ink flavor though, just tasted like fish.other ingredients:There were some many more ingredients to go with the hot pot...like bamboo pith, crab stick, chicken wings, fried bean curd, duck breast, vegetable basket & udon. The only thing I can complain about is just the space of the table was quite narrow, so the table was always crowded with plates of food. All and all, it was really an enjoyable dinner with delicious food & met a lot of foodies too!! Thanks again for the PR & restaurant to organize this dinner. :)…查看更多

Okome Shiratama Matcha Soft Serve (おこめ白玉抹茶ソフト)
Via Tokyo
2013-11-05
Via Tokyo!!!! I have heard about this place for a long time!!! Finally went there a few weeks back after dinner at Causeway Bay.When I arrived there were a lot of people lining up, some standing around in the store or outside & waited for seats. I have kind of expected that to happen, since I have heard lots of people lining up every time. Just didn’t really expect THAT much! So, I waited for 15 mins before I got a seat. I guess 15 mins waiting time isn’t really that long, consider myself lucky! The space of their store is pretty small!! As you can see in the picture that there were full of people standing around & waiting for seats. At one point, I just want to order the take away & leave. But in the end, finally got a seat! It’s really challenge people’s patience! Before I got a seat, a menu were provided in the cashier. So, I grab one & have a look. Since I got lots of time to think about, I chose one dessert that have matcha soft serve in it. Matcha soft serve, as I have heard, it’s even better than Sweet House Cha Cha.I got the seat near to the main entrance, which is next to the cute swinging chair seat. I took this picture when that person just left & before someone sit down. I kind of overheard that person said that the swinging chair isn’t really that comfortable!! hahaha..Ta-da!!!!!! So beautiful with the green match soft serve (抹茶ソフト) with mochi (白玉) & the crunchy bites (おこめ). It was served together with a small jar of syrup, which you can add it into the matcha soft serve if you like. The texture of the match soft serve was more solid than those form Sweet House Cha Cha. The matcha flavor was pretty strong, but not too sweet or too bitter. Just perfect!Love the crunchy bites with the matcha soft serve together!!! The mochi was chewy! The syrup added a hint of sweetness to the dessert!I love the matcha soft serve for both Sweet House Cha Cha & Via Tokyo. But if I really have to choose one, it would be Via Tokyo!!! Via Tokyo is my new favor matcha dessert place!! …查看更多

Weekend lunch at the deadend
Cafe Deadend
2013-11-03
One weekend getaway with friend to the deadend for lunch….since we met up at 12:30pm, so we had an outdoor table right away. We were all determined to try out as much as we could on the menu!! :) Unforunately, poached eggs & B.E.L.T were sold out when we were there! :(It’s nice to met Grace (grace0721hk) at Cafe Deadend. We kind of know each other on Instagram & found out that actually she works weekend at Cafe deadend!!! She turned out to be food reviewer on Openrice as well. :)First up was the drink: Coffee.Dirty is actually espresso with cold milk. Interesting, right?! Usually coffee like latte is added hot milk & pull off with the latte art on top. But when the cold milk hits the hot espresso, its looks really “dirty”…literally! The uneven color of the cold milk with the espresso looks interesting! The taste of it was alright, since cold milk was added, it’s either very hot or cold.Unfortunately, since we were arranged to sit outdoor, they actually serve drink in paper cup. So, I couldn’t see much of the “dirty” effect. I saw people who sits indoor, their cup of “dirty” was served beautifully with a glass cup, which you can see the color clearly!!!Crab Tartine is another item on the menu that have to order again!!! As I mentioned in the previous food review, it’s better to eat it with hand! It’s still fresh like the first time I have it. The only difference from last time was it served with a pizza box. Once again…’cause we were sitting outdoor. It’s an interesting way to serve up the food, but I just think it’s not really that environmentally friendly. I saw lots of people just dispose the paper cups & boxes into the bin, which isn’t for recycle! I understand that they are small business with limited utensils & manpower though.During the lunch, we saw there was a table available inside the cafe. So, we requested to move in. Since we were now sitting the indoor table, we were expecting the food to be served with normal plate instead of paper cups & boxes. However, when the tomato soup (new item on menu) arrived our table, we were quite shocked that it was served in a tall paper cup. The bread was placed inside a paper bag with feta cheese & butter in a plastic container. So for the sake of taking a beautiful picture with it, of course we requested to transfer the tomato soup into a bowl & place it together with the bread, cheese & butter on a plate. In term of taste…the tomato soup tasted strong in REAL tomato flavor & tomato chucks can be found in the soup. The baguette has a crunchy exterior & soft moist interior. It’s good to dip the baguette into the soup or just eat with the feta cheese & butter. After crab tartine & soup, we were off to order some dessert. You can find more dessert in this post than savories!!Dessert #1:White, red, green. What an interesting color combination!!! So as the flavors…vailla, strawberry & basil!! Never think basil could be added into a dessert dish!! The vanilla panna cotta was really creamy & light, not heavy at all! The strawberry ceviche was fresh & tangy, which balanced out the creamy panna cotta. The basil granita tasted interesting, almost unusual! I can’t say I like it, but I didn’t hate it either.Dessert #2:It’s like a beautiful drawing!!! Love the colors, love the flavors!!!The chocolate terrine was in strong & rich chocolate flavor. The blood orange sorbet & those citrus fruits tasted tangy & sour, which balanced out the richness of the chocolate terrine. Sweetness from the caramel & nuttiness from the pistachio added some different layer of flavors to this dessert. It’s just felt like…”BOOM!! BOOM!! BOOM!!”.Last but not least – Dessert #3:The famous signature apple tart!!!! When I first saw it on Instagram/ Openrice, I really though they bakes the whole apple inside the pastry, ’cause they left the apple stem on top! But the fact is they sliced the granny smith & layer it back into an apple-shaped. The pastry was flaky & buttery! The apple slices was soft & full of cinnamon flavor! I can just eat the whole apple tart without the vanilla cream.A fulfilling lunch with the girls! :) I heard they added some new items on the menu recently! Need to go there again!! …查看更多

PoHo Teakha

2013-10-28
Teakha! The first thing I remember this place is their green tea cheesecake. Never get bored with their green tea cheesecake. Then, the next thing I can relate to this cafe is their TEA! Tea is the soul of this place. The last thing I can come up with is the space of the cafe is REALLY small. But that’s how I like it. :) Small neighborhood with a small cafe downstairs. This place doesn’t sounds like Hong Kong at all!PoHo! This is new term I learned recently. But apparently this term has been used for year. PoHo means area around Po Hing Fong, which is just one street next to Tai Ping Shan Street at Sheung Wan. Lots of art galleries, small cafes like Teakha, Cafe Deadend etc are popping up in the area. This area would probably be my weekend getaway destination! There are lots of tea wares & pictures on the shelf as decoration to feel like home sweet home! :) The cashier is just facing the entrance. There is a big table on the left side that can accommodate around 9-10 people. There are some outside seats at the back of the restaurant, which usually are full with people. The kitchen is just next to the cashier, where you can see the staffs are busy brewing tea, baking cakes, running around serving the customers. As I mentioned before, their green tea cheesecake is the first thing I related to this place. So, how can me & my friends not order one to share?!They serves the green tea cheese cake with a beautiful blue & white plate. It was really moist & soft as usual. Cheesecake usually gives people an impression that it’s heavy. But Teakha’s green tea cheesecake is totally another story! It’s has a strong green tea flavor without the fake green tea sweetness overload. There is a buttery biscuit base at the bottom. I would definitely have another piece if we weren’t trying other cakes.3 layers of sponge cakes with 2 layers of cream with berries. The sponge cake was really fluffy & spongy. The cream was really light. But it's a bit too ordinary for me, even though the cake is nice with tea as afternoon tea.Pineapple…my memory of it is usually in Chinese dish. Pineapple upside down cake is another beautiful creation of Teakha. Upside down cake mean the ingredient (i.e.: pineapple) is putted at the bottom & the cake mixture on top. So when it’s done baking & flip the cake over, the ingredient that putted at the bottom will turn out to be on top! Teakha’s pineapple upside down cake tasted sweet & fruity with the creamy crème anglaise. If I have to put a priority of this 3 cakes we ate, it would be (1) green tea cheesecake, (2) Pineapple Upside Down cake & (3) Victoria Sponge Cake.I tried their brown sugar osmanthus chiffon cake before. Unfortunately, we didn’t see it that day when we went there. I’m not sure it’s out of stock that day we went or they doesn’t offer this cake anymore. :(Once in while they will have some new creations, so Teakha will be a spot at Sheung Wan I’ll go again and again!…查看更多

Special dinner for mum's birthday!! <3
Wooloomooloo Steakhouse
2013-10-28
This meal was really speical, 'cause me & my family came here to celebreate mum's birthday!!!! It's also to celebrate I got my pay rise back in Aug. SO!!! of course I'm the one who paid the bill!I specifally requested to sit next to the window, so we can see the harbour view. Unforunately, the building was renovating & lots of bamboo sticks were blocking out our view! Quite disappointing. The restaurant was decorated as Australian outback. Some beautiful boomerangs were displayed in front of the main entrance of the restaurant. The wall is decorated with Australian aboriginal dot paintings.First of all, some garlic bread was served up. It wasn't searing hot, but at least warm though. There is olive oil & vinegar to go with the bread. The small standing light on the table is in aboriginal dot paintings pattern!!! So beautiful!I saw reviews on Openrice about this lobster bisque & I have decided to order this. The waitress reminded us that the size is quite small, which only enough for one person. But we decided to just share it.The lobster bisque was served with a small pot with a spoon. The soup was in orange color The lobster flavor is pretty strong. It's quite creamy & velvety. If I would visit again, I'll definitely order one JUST FOR MYSELF!!!! hehehe....Next up was salad. There are 5 different salad options on the a la carte menu. We chose one just based on the name: Wooloomooloo salad. The other options seems pretty ordinary. The salad has char-grilled filet mignon, romaine, baby spinach, button mushrooms, cherry tomato, heart of palm and tossed with mustard vinaigrette & truffle oil. It tasted a bit sour, but the salad green tasted fresh though. I personally don't really rave about this dish. I guess it's a lesson to learn about choosing dishes just base on the fancy name. It's a steakhouse, obviously we ordered steak! Since Wooloomooloo Steakhouse serves Australia cuisine, the beef is from Australia. The rib eye was 150-day grain fed, 2-3 weeks wet aged, sourced from Grainge Farms, Gippsland, Victoria. The rib eye was really soft, meaty & juicy, not chewy at all! It's perfect in medium raw as we ordered it. We chose horseradish cream to go with the rib eye. The rib eye was pretty big, so we have to share among ourselves. They really deserves the reputation as a steakhouse!!!I know some people don't like to eat lamb. But my whole family love it! So we ordered a lamb dish to share. The lamb cutlets were actually pretty fatty on the side. But I love the bread & herb crust!!! Really crusty! When I cut off the fat part of the lamb cutlets, the remain lamb meat wasn't much. So even though this dish was yum, it's quite expensive.I LOVE THIS DISH!!!!! I have bad experience with squid ink pasta before. :( But this squid ink spaghetti is creamy & fresh, nothing like the one I ate before at I-already-forgot-where. I can taste prawn & lobster in the cream. The sauce was rich & thick enough to stick on the pasta & wouldn't just dripped off. I would definitely order this dish again if I come again. This meal was really satisfied & hope my mum like it as well!! :) I saw people recommended their chocolate fondant. But we were just so full to eat dessert, so this will be on my to go list!!! …查看更多

I have been here for once quite a long time ago. I'm really impressed by their high quality of greentea dessert. So, I found a chance to go there again last month.Never I imagined Jordan would has such a decent dessert place, since it's mostly Cantonese style cafes around that area.Everyone can have a look at the menu before going in, 'cause they put the menu on the table outside the cafes. They also have a big banner outside the cafe that introducing their parfait series, greentea dessert combo.Once I went into the cafes, there is a display counter that showcase their different dessert. There are a few greentea chiffon cakes facing the main entrance. Obviously that is their signature dessert. If you walk further down into the cafe, you can find another counter showcasing their different roll cakes. The greentea roll cake was the dessert that I ate the 1st time when I visited here. So, I definiately need to order it again! The sponge was still very fluffy with strong greentea flavor with greentea cream.I wish to eat another piece, but I tried to resist myself. 'Cause I want to try other dessert as well. The 2nd dessert I ordered was this greentea chiffon cake. It's really tall in size. The fluffy greentea chiffon cake is covered with a thick layer of cream.Compare to the greentea roll cake, the greentea flavor wasn't that strong. I guess it's because it's without the greentea cream. But it's still as good as heaven!! :)Both greentea roll cake & the greentea chiffon cake are superb, no wonder it's the 2 most popular dessert here.…查看更多

Brunch at Kwun Tong
Loft Kitchen
2013-10-25
After the birthday dinner with friend at Loft Kitchen, I finally find another day with friends to come here again to try out their brunch. Unfortunately, they only offer brunch on Saturday and closes on Sunday. Their brunch menu is really simply, just 4 choices. Since we are 4 people, so we ordered all 4 things on the menu. The all day big breakfast included: eggs (we chose sunny side up), bacon, sausage, hash brown, mushroom, roasted tomato, baked beans & toast.I love they have baked beans & hash brown in the all day breakfast. That's the 2 favors food!!!! The hash brown was hot & crunchy. The egg, mushroom & baked beans always go really well together with the toasts. The bacon & sausage tasted normal, not much special.Pancakes was served with fresh cream, maple syrup & seasonal fruits (banana, strawberry, blueberry & mango). If I really have to choose, pancakes would be my favor brunch option here. So, most likely I choose pancakes again if I come here for brunch. The pancakes were served up hot & fluffy! Fruits is always a good combination with pancakes. There were 4 big pieces of pancakes, so I have to share it with friends. The classic benedict has 2 poached egg & ham/ bacon on english muffin, served with Hollandaise sauce on top. The side dish are salad & potato wedges. The classic bendict was just alright. The poached egg was soft-boiled & the yolk just oozy. But somehow I have eaten better egg benedict elsewhere. So, this dish isn't up to my standard if I have compare it with the egg bandict somewhere else.On the other hand, I love the side dish (i.e.: potato wedges) more than the egg benedict. I have eaten the potato wedges as the side dish in the BBQ rib at dinner. I already fell in love with it at that time!3 ingredients has to be chosen out of the 7 ingredients. As I recalled we chose tomato, ham & mushroom. The other ingredients options are cheese, bacon, onion & spinach. The omelette would be my least favor brunch option here. The omelette was a bit overcooked & tasted rough, not really smooth at all. Again!! I love the potato wedges more!I have tried brunch & dinner here, but not lunch (only offer Mon-Fri). So hopefully there will be chances I can try their lunch. But if I have to say....I'll only come back for the pancakes. Another good thing here is the price is really cheap, I guess because it's located inside the industrial building. Otherwise I'll just choose other brunch places at Central or Sheung Wan, even that means I have to go quite a long way over the HK island side.…查看更多
