I was so upset with the experience I had the other night with Pizza Express, I had to create an Open Rice profile just to share it with all of you. Truly ridiculous. My friend and I decided it would be a good idea to order a pizza on Sunday night. Sounds like an easy and normal idea, yes?. Couldn't have been more wrong. My friend and I decided it would be a good idea to order a pizza on Sunday night. Sounds like an easy and normal idea, yes?. Couldn't have been more wrong. Problems started as soon as we dialed the telephone number. The first person who answered spoke unintelligible English. No big deal, it's Hong Kong, it happens. After trying and failing to understand that I wanted to order a pizza, the shop assistant hung up. Again, it's Hong Kong. It happens.
When I dialed back, someone who could understand a bit better picked up. When I told him that I wanted to order a pizza, I was immediately passed off to someone else. Not before five minutes on hold though. When I finally got to speak to the next person, I was asked to give my information. When I said that I was a first-time customer and that my info wouldn't be in their system, it was demanded that I provide my number. I laughed, provided my number, got put back on hold, and waited five more mins for someone to come back on the phone to tell me that indeed, yes, I was a first-time customer.
At this point I'd been attempting to order a pizza for around 15 mins between the transfers and hold times. As the newest person got on the phone, she began asking questions about some kind of 'value club' or some such. I stated (again, laughing) that I just wanted order a pizza. She snarkily replied 'Don't you know that it will be over two hours wait?!' and further questions about loyalty clubs or some such. When I asked her to just stop offering me all this stuff and to simply take my order, she threatened to call her boss (super weird). I encouraged this, and asked to speak to him immediately.
When he answered the phone and I explained that I was trying to (gasp) order a pizza from a pizza shop, he said no problem, but that he would have to transfer me to someone else. At this point enough was enough, and I said firmly 'No, I won't be passed on again, here's my order.' After giving it to him, he told me the pizza would be around an hour (not the two hours plus I was quoted earlier), and that it would be over 200HKD. 'Fine,' I said, and provided my address.
Well, two hours later, the pizza arrived. To say that it was an insult is putting it mildly. Pizza Express outsources their delivery to some company, and the state of the pizza that arrived was ATROCIOUS. Of course, the pizza was cold, but that was by far not the worst part. Have a look at the attached picture to see what I mean. Truly sad. The thing had obviously been tossed around, and little to no care given from the shop or delivery company. It barely resembled a pizza. The delivery driver was INCREDULOUS that I would refuse delivery, but I told him there was no way I'd pay for that garbage. Some random person from the delivery company called and was equally as incredulous that I'd refuse it. But refuse it I did. And refuse to ever go back to Pizza Express, I will.
Sounds like a long story for something as simple as order
Something that used to resemble a pizza
