I remember now why I don't like going to Shatin on weekend. There are incredibly long queues at every single restaurant. EVERY SINGLE RESTAURANT! So, you're stuck with places you normally would choose. Such as Mixian Sense.Mixian Sense is a huge chain restaurant serving rice vermicelli noodles or what they call Mixian. Menu is in English and Chiense. There is no 10% service charge.At night they have dinner sets that include an appetizer, main and drink.The drink I ordered was the mango oolong.

The drink I ordered was the mango oolong. It tasted like sugar with a bag of oolong tea floating in it. As the water was cold, the taste of tea was negligible.
Boyfriend ordered this as his appetizer: Sichuan style spicy cucumber and beef shank cubes. It stated small portions but it was quite a lot. It was very spicy as well but the cucumbers were crisp.
He ordered the Mixian with Fried Pork Chop in Yunnan style sour and spicy soup ($74) but as he didn't like the soup, he upgraded $4 to dan dan soup. This was really spicy as well. The pork chop was ok but they didn't slice it up. It was just one bit piece.
I chose pork cartilages in Chinese black vinegar as the appetizer. Again for small portion as stated, it was more than expected. The taste was ok. A balance of sweet and sour. The cucumbers were well pickled as well.
I had the Mixian with seaweed, pork balls, fish tofu, fish balls and wontons in pork broth ($74). It arrived in a huge bowl. But it wasn't as big as it looked as I could finish it. The pork broth was ok but tasted like MSG. The fish balls were a bit soggy and not much flavor. But the wontons were great.
The food fits the bill if you need something fast and filling. Price wise, there are places cheaper than here but it's convenient to get to. And for some reason, I do come back.
