Kowloon City is a place known for their Thai food, more than any other cuisine. Therefore, I was abit concerned when my wife told me to go to Kowloon city for Vietnamese food. She personally endorsed it as she was working in Kowloon City previously and has dined there for few times.Pho Le restaurant has a couple of branches, originally from Ho Chi Minh Vietnam. Pho Le restaurant has a couple of branches, originally from Ho Chi Minh Vietnam. When we arrived shortly after 2pm, the place was still almost full, even after lunch crowd. I guess what attracts most people is their affordable lunch set. It is only available on Monday to Friday from 1130am to 3pm. They do offer 10 over selection for lunch set, which is very enticing. Besides the lunch set, their ala carte menu is very comprehensive as well.
Lime & salty lemon with honey – Even though I only took a few sips, but I enjoyed this drink. My wife chose the hot version. I could still see honey resting at the bottom of the cup as it was not stirred when served. It was both sweet and sour, a good remedy for those who have slight cough.
Fresh coconut – I was slightly disappointed with this drink. The coconut was quite old, thus the coconut flesh was tough. The drink was not that sweet either, it was ok at best.
Pho Le special noodles – When it was served, I was massively shocked. It was served in a big bowl, with tons of noodles in it. Even with 2 people eating just this dish alone will still be full. It has all types of beef meat in it, beef ball, beef sliced meat & beef briskets etc. Texture of the noodles was thick and soft. Meat was tender and soft as well.
Sour & spicy seafood soup - It was very different from the famed Tom Yum Goong from Thailand. It consists of prawn, mussels, tomato & pineapple etc. It does not have the punch that Tom Yum Goong give, in term of taste. Soup was slightly on the sour and bland side.
Fried pork neck rice – I enjoyed this dish the most. It was fried till the sides were slighted charred, yet still retaining the tenderness of the meat. There was some slight fat in it, thus when consumed it was very juicy and soft.
