My experience was so infuriating that it's hard to find the words. Just thinking about the experience makes me want to punch the wall. I guess common sense and good customer service is far too often taken for granted in HK; a city renown for it's high level of service and sophistication.

My family and I decided to go to Sevva for a snack. It was about 5pm and we figured that the restaurant shouldn't be too busy since this was the tail end of the tea service and before the dinner rush. We get to the restaurant ask for a table for 4. The hostess asked if we'd like to sit outside and we politely decline because it's hot and humid outside. They said that they can't seat us inside as they have no tables available, but after having a look around, there were at least 3 unoccupied tables of suitable size. So naturally we ask about these tables and we get various excuses as to why we can't sit there; one table is reserved for "Sevva's marketing meetings" and another was reserved for a group coming in for drinks later, etc.

So I spent a good 15 minutes heatedly trying to explain to the hostess that 1) we only want to get a few slices of cake and 2) it shouldn't take us more than 30 minutes at the most for us to finish. After a lot of resistance, she finally gave in.

We were seated. We ordered 3 pieces of cake and 2 drinks. We took our time and finished. AND GUESS WHAT! The table that was supposedly reserved for Sevva's marketing meetings was never used. The group that reserved the tables for drinks hadn't shown up by the time we were done. SHOCKING!

To the owner of Sevva: You need to re-train the hosting staff with some basic customer service tenets.

1) When a customer wants to give you money, YOU SHOULD FIGURE OUT HOW TO ACCOMMODATE THEM!
2) When a customer is willing to pay HK $135 FOR A SINGLE SLICE OF CAKE, YOU SHOULD FIGURE OUT HOW TO MAKE THEM HAPPY!
3) A customer should NOT have to spend ANY TIME stressfully explaining to your hostess how SHE can make the situation work and make more money for Sevva!
