Anyways ... new ice cream shop opened up in Causeway Bay. Much like Honey Granny, Honey Sparkling Desserts, Soft Creme, Honey Creme that serve soft serve ice cream with a block of honey comb, we now have Softree. But this is not a copycat. Far from it! In fact, this is the original! The one who started the soft serve honey comb ice cream trend. The one that all those other places copied. Yes, if fact, those shops are the copycat.

Softree is from Seoul, Korea. In one year, it went from one shop in Korea to a total of 33 and expanding around the world. Koreans queue for an hour for this ice cream. Who knew that serving soft serve ice cream with a block of wax and gooey honey would make Koreans go beecrazy (excuse the pun). And now ... they opened their first shop in Hong Kong. The city where EVERYONE queues up for food. The more popular the place, the longer the lines. Welcome Softree to Hong Kong, foodie queues start your engine!

The shop is located right between Ramen Jo and Burgerroom. It appears my favorite quiet area of Causeway Bay is only going to start getting even more crowded. The shop is white with bright lights. It has seating both inside and out. K-pop played in the background.

The menu is nicely displayed in English. They have a smaller menu with photos and Chinese at the counter for you to look at. Because really ... who knows what a magic lamp is?

It was a Monday afternoon and the place was fairly busy already! I was greeted by a friendly staff member who explained what they were about and what the different ice cream toppings were. I was told the ice cream used organic milk and all ingredients were from Korea. I chose the "WOW" Honey Chips soft serve. Because really....this is the flavor that started it all. I requested it in a cup.

The size was pretty small. For $46, it was pretty pricey bit of soft cone. But the ice cream was wonderfully creamy with a touch of vanilla. It was almost like good frozen yogurt. It wasn't sweet at all. That's a good thing because the honey was wonderfully sticky and sweet. A while ago, I had some honey comb from Honey Sparkling Desserts and nearly gagged on it. Honey Creme didn't wow me either. But this honey comb was different. It was actually crunchy for most part. It crumbled well when I poked at it. I got a few chewy bits at the end. But mostly it was nice and crunchy so I didn't choke from eating wax. But the best part that all the other places didn't do? They drizzled a nice amount of honey on it. It made the ice cream sweet and delightful. Organic milk. Sweetened with honey. Does it get any more healthy for a dessert?

Another case where the original always outshines the copycats. I noticed the Korean shops have other flavors, smoothies and fresh juice, too. I wonder if they'll expand this menu to Hong Kong as well? I hope so! I will return.
