Weekends rolled around and I decided to come over to my boyfriend's neighbourhood as he wanted to show me his new fresh wet market. As I was super hungry (I didn't know the bus took so long to get there from my place), we came here for a very late lunch. There were two new restaurants in this mall and the local residents were queuing up for the other one. There were two new restaurants in this mall and the local residents were queuing up for the other one. This one had room so we decided to on this one.
Pho Nguyen Lan is a Vietnamese restaurant. During afternoon tea time, they only offer an afternoon tea menu. Ordering is by checking off what you want on the menu. You pay on your way out. Menu is in English and Chinese. There is no 10% service charge. All sets come with a drink but $5 is added for cold drinks. I noticed only one person had a cold drink. Understandable as $5 is a bit steep when every where else only charges $3.
I ordered the raw beef with pho ($45). I originally wanted Vietnamese style coffee but they told me they only had the pricier drip version or cold. As I didn't feel like adding money, I just switched to a regular Hong Kong style coffee. Portions was a bit smaller than expected even though the bowl was very large. The soup was ok. Nothing really stood out. The beef, however, was so tough to chew.
Boyfriend ordered the Lemongrass Chicken Wings and Pork Chop with Rice ($45). The menu in English only stated wings but the Chinese one has pork chop added. The wings were a bit too dry though they tasted fine. The pork chop was also very dry as well. It was definitely over cooked.
Food was pretty average. Portion size, especially for this area, was fairly small. Really won't be back.
