Originally I had wanted to go somewhere else for lunch but it was closed. So as I was desperately hungry, I popped in here. This restaurant sells vermicelli (called mi xian, hence the name) with a motto of no MSG in their chicken soup base. They also serve rice sets as well. Most of the food is spicy on the level of Siuchuan. Upon sitting down, I discovered they were from the same restaurant group that owns Kung Fu Dim Sum, Koon Thai Hai Nam Chicken and Greenland Corner. Restaurants I've been to
This restaurant sells vermicelli (called mi xian, hence the name) with a motto of no MSG in their chicken soup base. They also serve rice sets as well. Most of the food is spicy on the level of Siuchuan. Upon sitting down, I discovered they were from the same restaurant group that owns Kung Fu Dim Sum, Koon Thai Hai Nam Chicken and Greenland Corner. Restaurants I've been to and didn't have memorable experiences with that I made me want to return again.
The setting of the restaurant is hip. It's colored in yellow and black. Their menu is also hip with splashy photos, words written in English and Chinese. Even the waiters wore hip yellow t-shirts with the logo on it.
I was given a lunch set and it was rather inexpensive. Prices averaged $40 and included a soft drink or upgrade $3 for soyamilk. As everything on the menu was spicy (I had no idea going into the restaurant and it was too late for me to leave), I chose the only thing that wasn't spicy on the menu. Squid balls and beef balls vermicelli ($38) and added $3 for a cold soyamilk.
Soyamilk came in a plastic cup with plastic wrapped lid on it like you get on the street. This was problematic for me because I'm hopelessly stupid at trying to poke a hole into the lid with my straw. It usually takes me several tries until boyfriend just rolls his eyes, groans and pokes it for me. Well, he wasn't here and it still took me a while to poke at it until I finally did. Anyways ... the soyamilk was ok. It was a bit on the sweet side and not enough soyabean.
