To celebrate godbro XO's achievement in becoming the Wanchai district specialist, the 3 OR troopers, including godbro, Mr Ken, and me, decided to go on a foodie adventure!  Each of us would nominate a restaurant for the celebration, and first came Mr Ken's nomination, BV Kitchen.  Mr Ken said that BV has added some new dishes to the menu, and they are worthy of a revisit!  Mr H, my ahem, tagged along on our food adventure as well, and he was my designated photographer! Upon our arrival, we notic

Upon our arrival, we noticed BV Kitchen has tone-downed some of its dinosaur decorations inside the restaurant, but the dino graffiti are still very prominent on the outside!

After a muggy, sticky day, what's better than a refreshing slushy drink?  The waiter recommended Wonderland to me after I said I love lychee drinks!  And Mr H got a green slushy!

My slushy was alcohol free, and it came with popping candies.  The instructions I was given were to put the candies in my mouth and sip the drink.  I took a sip of the drink by itself first, and it was a nice refreshing lychee slushy.  Then, I did it with the candies, and it was like an explosion in my mouth!  I felt like a kid having the drink with popping candies!!
 I also took a sip of Mr H's drink, which was also non-alcoholic since he had to drive.  The green slushy resembled a frozen mojito with a strong minty flavor!

To start, we had the seafood platter. The seafood platter definitely had a wow factor due to its size!

According to the waiter, the restaurant orders their seafood from a supplier to guarantee its freshness.  I was quite impressed by the freshness of the seafood!  I didn't even have to use the cocktail sauce or vinegar to neutralize any fishy taste from the seafood!
Oyster, Scallop, Abalone, Clam

The bivalves were all very fresh to the point where you can taste the sweetness within its flesh.  The oyster had a good salinity but was not overly salty.  I usually take my oysters with a dollop of cocktail sauce, but this was so fresh that it wasn't necessary.  The rest of the bivalves had the right amount of chewiness and were all delicious!

The prawn looked perfectly plump even before removing the shell.  Mr H sliced the prawn in half, and the prawn revealed its back which is filled with flavorful orange roe.
 I usually don't like having lobster in HK as the chefs tend to overcook it resulting with lobster that is tough to chew.  However, this lobster was cooked just right.  It had the right texture and was moist in the middle.

Next, we had the Cream of Tomato soup, which was the soup of the day.  The soup was served with bread accompanied with black olive spread.

The Cream of Tomato soup had the right amount of tanginess and was full of umami from the tomatoes!  The flavor reminded me of vodka sauce from New York City but in a good way.  Even Mr H, who usually hates tomatoes, finished his soup!  The last time we were here, they gave us sliced bread with the soup, but this time, it was dinner rolls, which I much prefer!  The crust had the right amount of crunchy/crispiness, and the roll itself tasted great.  The restaurant paid attention to these small details like not skimming on the quality of the bread flour like so many other restaurants!  The olive spread tasted good just like the last time, and it was a good balance of olives, salt, and oil.

I'm not a huge fan of lamb nor goat cheese, but Mr H is, so we had the rack of lamb.

I could smell the goat cheese as soon as they served the dish.
 But, going by the motto of you must try everything once, I took a little piece of the lamb.  I usually don't take lamb because of its gaminess, but this lamb wasn't so bad.  I'm not sure if it was the combo of the lamb and the goat cheese or the fact that they served it at the ideal medium-rare rareness, but I didn't hate this rack of lamb.  Can't say I loved it, but not bad at all!

I love short ribs, but I've never had it sous vide style, so this was a dish I was looking forward to. 
Sous vide US Prime Short Rib w/Chocolate Gravy

I've had short ribs before that were slow cooked and melted in my mouth, but this sous vide style of slow cooking resulted in something different.  The traditional slow cooked short rib would lose it flavor through the cooking process.  However, the sous vide cooked short rib retained its pinkness.  The meat was very tender and had a strong beef flavor.  After taking the first bite, I realized the gravy was made with chocolate, which I overlooked when I looked at the menu earlier.  I guess the words sous vide drew my attention away.  I knew beef pairs well with chocolate (thanks Food Network!), and this short rib definitely demonstrated it!  The chocolate in the gravy actually enhanced the beef flavor!  

The confit tomatoes were nice and juicy as the last time!  The asparagus was crunchy!  And, the mashed potatoes were rustic, where they were not pureed till all the lumps were gone, and the truffle sauce in the mashed potatoes was delicious and not overpowering.

Thanks Mr Ken for recommending us on revisiting BV Kitchen.  The updated menu at BV is a definite upgrade!  Also, they now have live music at the bar, which was a pleasant surprise!  During our meal, another table was celebrating a birthday, and Rikky, the live singer, sang happy birthday to them!  Can't wait to see what other positive changes the team at BV will bring to us in the future!
