The Matcha Tokyo created a bit of buzz. Originally from Tokyo, it offers matcha drinks and cookies in a chic modern cafe type setting. When it opened, there were huge long lines. Menu is in Chinese, Japanese and English. There is no 10% service charge. They offer various tea drinks along with ice cream and parfaits. They also have croffles, an item not found in Japan's shop. They also offer coffee ... which is a bit strange as it's a matcha place???
I decided to get a ice matcha espresso latte ($48). I've had this in other places and I must admit, this is actually the best I've had in Hong Kong. The espresso was strong but not enough to cover up the strength of the matcha. The matha was fragrant and smooth. The addition of milk was just enough to give it a bit of creaminess but not enough to water it down.
The drink was pretty good and I'd return. But not if there is a line because it's not worth lining up for.
