This is review #10 of my "tour" of the frozen yogurt shops in Hong Kong, and I'm mainly writing this because the reviews I've read here on OpenRice do not seem to do a good comparison of all of the shops. A useful Frozen Yogurt comparison should be written by someone who knows the difference between product, and it's obvious most people do not really know how to tell if yogurt is good or bad, real yogurt or just milk powder. It's sad. I have not only tasted froyo from the US, Korea (where it
So on to TuttiFrutti. In the U.S., this froyo chain is considered cheap, watered down frozen yogurt. And guess what? In Hong Kong, it is STILL CHEAP, WATERED DOWN, ICY totally terrible frozen yogurt. After tasting 10 different frozen yogurt shops, I can say that TuttiFrutti is the WORST frozen yogurt in Hong Kong so far (the staff are pretty nice though). The reason for this overly icy texture is the use of a lot of WATER in the yogurt base, and the taste also gave away that this product does not contain "real" yogurt, it's simply yogurt powder mixed with mostly, or completely, water. BUT I found that the shop advertised that the yogurt contained live, active cultures. Totally FALSE!
The machines are self-serve, but the staff did not do a good job of keeping the yogurt fresh. When I dispensed the yogurt, it came out liquid (similar to TuttiMelon), and it kept coming out overly watery, this stuff was melted until after a couple seconds, and I was already upset. The toppings offered are pretty pathetic, barely any selection, and the shop is very, very plain. In fact, I could tell that some of the decorations were purchased cheaply.
And about the flavors, this shop tries to create many different flavors, I think I remember 10 different flavors, but they pretty much all tasted THE SAME! for example, I tried pumpkin flavor and it tasted like ice, I tried berry, and it tasted like ice. I tried chocolate, and it tasted like pure disgusting.
I guess I wouldn't have minded so much if it was a $2.5 McDonald's cone, but the worse thing is when I get overcharged for something that is low quality. my yogurt came out to over $35 for this cheaply, disgusting stuff (I hate paying over $35 for bad yogurt) and I think it's because of the extra liquid that was dispensed. I hope TuttiFrutti will disappear and get replaced by a real yogurt shop. But it's unlikely since they probably make a lot of money from overcharging for cheap, terrible yogurt. there's a lot of profit in that. So sad there's no other yogurt shops in Chai Wan so people can taste the difference. There was hardly any customers in the shop when I was there around 5 pm on a weekday, and it's too bad because I would have told them all how this frozen yogurt sucks.
I'll come back to their shops and check out if their other locations have the same problems, but I'm not expecting much.
