For some reason, I had a craving for okonomiyaki. Perhaps it was all this vacation planning? Looking up somewhere in Hong Kong that served this, I found a place called 楓 (English name: Kaede). It was small and located yet a good number of people were dining inside.Menu is in Chinese only. You order by QR code menu and pay on your way out. They have various drinks that are found in the QR code menu. Drinks are a la carte but if you order a hotcake, the drink will be discounted. I had the Yuzu Honey Green Tea ($38, on the left) and boyfried had the Matcha Milk ($29, on the right which is the discounted price). The yuzu honey green tea was really sweet. They definitely do not skimp on the yuzu honey syrup! The matcha milk had a strong matcha taste and wasn't sweet at all.
They have four different okonomiyakis to choose from and we had the Octopus Okonomiyaki ($88). It was piping hot when it it came out, covered with plenty of sauce and fluttering bonito flakes.
Nice, crisp and soft, there was a lot of octopus pieces. Corn and imitation crab meat was also mixed in.
For dessert, we had the Hojicha Hot Cake ($158). Arriving in a lot of sauce (they definitely do not skimp on this). The menu says they use tea leaves from Marukyu Koyamen tea house in Kyoto to make the sauce. And the sauce? Was pretty good. Strong tea flavour and fragrant. Not sweet at all. There was also slices of caramelized banana, strawberries, blueberries, warabi mochi and dango hidden under all that sauce.
The hotcake itself was warm and moist. It had a rich buttery taste.
Definitely something different than a lot of places in the surrounding area. Food was good and nicely crafted. Service was friendly.
