We came at about 6 o'clock on a Wednesday evening and were the only ones here. After being seated by the slightly nervous staff, we browsed the menu. Afte a few minutes of being ignored, the staff acknowledged us, but then spent another few minutes deciding who should come and take our order.
We eventually ordered two chicken rice and six chicken satay.
As you would imagine, the chicken rice came out very swiftly. It was a really mixed bag. Firstly, it was served in a really impractical manner. In Singapore, chicken rice is served on plate with the chicken layered across the rice and the condiments on the side. Here, they serve it on a tray with each element in its own bowl. The rice in a small bowl and the chicken laid out on some lettuce. The issue with this is that you can't mix in the condiments and put it together as you like. It was hard to eat without making a mess. The positive was that the rice was good. It had the nice savoury flavour from being cooked in the chicken broth. The chicken was flabby and the fat was really chewy and unpleasant. The chili sauce was watery and instead of a thick soy based sauce, we were given straight up soy sauce. The garlic sauce was replaced by a lemon grass based sauce, which was not bad.
The satay came next, once we finished our chicken rice. The little skewers were not bad. They were a little ragged and sauce was a little too shrimpy, but they were acceptable.
The biggest problem was when we left. As we walked out, we noticed that the satay was being stored out in the corridor on a trolley. No refrigeration. Cling film wrapped stacks of raw chicken satay in warm conditions. We didn't get sick, but after seeing that, I wonder whether anyone else has, it's just a matter of time.
Mediocre food with very bad hygiene. We will not be going again.
