We reserved a table for 6 for 12:30pm, Saturday. We got there about 20 mins earlier and we got seated right away.  Our table was inside by the windows because we had a 3-year old niece with us. It was about 1/4 full at that time. They only provided brunch and a-la-carte that day.  I was thrilled to see that they offered shashuka, hence immediately I ordered that. I was thrilled to see that they offered shashuka, hence immediately I ordered that. We also had two orders of poached eggs on sourdough toasts, a sweet souffle pancake, and two orders of fish and chips.  As for the niece, she had a meat bolognese spaghetti from the kid's menu.
Every dish was beautifully presented with loads of ingredients, especially the fish and chips had mountains of fries and mashed peas topped with a huge fish fillet.
When it comes to taste, the fish and chips and the souffle pancakes were the most disappointing ones. Although, the fish fillet was big in size but the meat was tough. It requires some time to chew on it. Everyone at the table felt the same way. Usually the fish is very tender and juicy, but not this one. And remember we had ordered two, so both fish fillets were the same in toughness.
The souffle pancakes were not souffle, but flattened ones. It was in a stack of four, covered with whipped cream and blueberry sauce. The pancakes were not fluffy. They were somewhat overcooked.  Best not to order this.
The shashuka was alright. The best dish was to my surprise~ the poached eggs on sourdough toasts. I love that glossy eggs sat on top of a thick layer of avocado and yogurt. They were perfect together with that thick crunchy chewy toast. I would order this again.
I've been to other branches of Frites before and normally have dinner. This was my first time having brunch at this Wanchai branch. I must say that the overall services were great. The servers were friendly, cheerful and helpful. However, when it comes to the food, they might need to make some changes to their sources of ingredients.
