We planned a quick trip to Singapore in a weeks time, and i was treating this meal a prologue to the delicious tours we will have in Singapore. As i was not feeling hungry (as always, my appetite has deserted me), I shared a dish with my mum and we ordered a Prawn Mee. My dad had his usual Laksa, and on top of that we also ordered for a Kaya Toast.

We hardly had to wait before the noodles were ready. They were huge in portions! We first started with the laksa. It was quite a disappointment really, as the soup base wasnt flavourful enough despite its colour. There was hardly coconut milk/cream/whatever in it and it tasted as if it had been diluted. The noodles were quite think and chewy, but sadly they had not picked up any taste from the soup. So were the dried bean curd, which remained tough and dry after bathing in the soup for sometime. Luckily i have something way better than this to look forward to - in Singapore!

Then we moved onto the Pawn Mee. The soup looked darker this time and the noodles also doubled in thickness. I first sampled with the soup and strangely i sensed something familiar in the soup. I drank again, puzzled. I had tried this before, but i failed to tell where it was.

My dad asked if it was the taste of the bisque - and oh YESSSSS! the answer hit me like a bullet-no wonder why it tasted so familiar to me as i was just drinking lobster bisque at Hugo's two days ago. the soup here was greattt but it could be a little less salty. The noodles, thick and even more chewy, tasted marvellous in the soup. Other condiments in the bowl of noodles include a thin slice of pork, a thick slab of lean pork meat, some prawns, beans sprout and vegetables, all topped with a mysterious looking orange powder (which might be meat floss). The condiments werent great but as long as they had the soup base right, everything would be alright and tasty.

Last we ate the ultra-thin Kaya toast. They were great as they were extremely thin and crispy, and they got the kaya spread right. It tasted of coconut and butter, and it smelt sweet and nice when put under the nose. It tasted even more wonderful when eaten - very authentically Singaporean, despite the fact that they could not grill the bread on a real grill like how they did back in Singapore. But this one was good enough in HK.

The store got hotter as more and more people ordered hot bowls of noodles, so we went as soon as we were done with food. Despite the excellent food the service had been bad. The old man looked like he was dreaming while taking our orders, and gave us dirty, obviously unwashed bowls for us to share the noodles. The boss/manager watched me with wary eyes as i shot photos of the food. Well-while the later might be something i had to get used to if i am determined to take nice photos of food and restaurants, i think that a basic degree of respect and service are necessary. He should not just go away with the dirty bowl in his hand, looking absolutely unbothered by our (perhaps not )filed complain.

We all need some motivation ie. a kick on our butt to improve what we have, i guess.
