Before returning to the US, I wanted to have more Japanese food in Hong Kong since the sashimi quality is much better and less pricey. Sansen is located in the basement of a building in Causeway Bay, and it's easy to find the restaurant with their advertising billboard at the entrance.
The restaurant also has the menu available at the entrance, so you can see if they offer the kind of food you are looking for.
Since the restaurant is located in the basement, it's not a huge space, but they had interesting decorations that turned the booths into cute straw huts.
They also took advantage of the space under the stairs by turning them into 2 separate VIP rooms.
For those interested in having a drink, they have a vast variety of sakes on display.
After getting seated, tea was served. I decided to order a kaisendon and tempura for lunch.
Japanese condiments were readily available on the table.

Assorted Tempura ($75): The tempura had a light crunchy batter, and the shrimp were full-sized and toothsome. There was a nice variety of vegetables, and my favorite was the eggplant which was fried to the right doneness where it was still firm yet fully-cooked.
The tempura was served with the dipping sauce along with grated daikon, and it was quite impressive that the dipping sauce was piping hot!Although Sansen may not be very spacious as a restaurant, they compensate it with cute straw hut decorations and clever utilization of the space under the stairs. The kaisendon lunch is set at a reasonable price for a good quality sashimi rice bowl!
