The first time I ate at 馬祖台灣養生湯麵館 (English name: Taiwanese Mazu Lifestyle Noodles), it was in Tin Hau and I really did like it. Their focus is healthy Chinese medicinal based chicken soup. I've gone back a few times. Much to my surprise, they now have a shop here in Causeway Bay. Even closer to where I live! More convenient. So, on a lazy evening when I didn't feel like making dinner, boyfriend and I came here for a bowl of noodles.
Located in V Point, this is a much more spacious restaurant than the one in Tin Hau.
Menu is in English and Chinese. There is no 10% service charge and you pay on your way out.
They now have sets for one which include an appetizer, bowl of noodles and a drink. We decided to order from the sets.
I had the mango jasmine tea (one the left) and boyfriend had the citrus lemon drink (on the right). The glasses were the big pitcher type ones. Definitely not stingy on the drinks. It also tasted fairly good. It was sweet enough without being too sweet. The citrus one was even better. Very refreshing.
We shared our appetizers. This is the fried cuttlefish spring rolls. The spring rolls were crispy with a very meaty cuttlefish paste filling.
We also had the braised chicken wings. These were not too salty. The meat was juicy.
Boyfriend wanted something spicy so he chose the spicy marinated beef with handmade ramen ($109). The soup was very spicy and rich. The beef brisket was braised so long, it literally melted away. They were also huge in size! The noodles were thick and soaked up the soup well.
I had the medicinal bok choy dumplings with vermicelli soup ($91). The soup was a rich chicken soup with a subtle herbal taste that wasn't too strong to be off putting. What was shocking was the dumplings. Six huge sized dumplings! They were bigger than the size of my spoon. The filling was juicy. The skin not too thick yet very smooth. This was so huge, I honestly couldn't finish. I didn't expect it to be this big. Boyfriend had to help me finish it off.
Portion size was huge! Food was very good and I loved the soup as it did feel healthy. Though it seemed expensive, the portion size made up for it. They definitely weren't stingy at all. Seating is spacious as well. And now that this place is closer to where I live, I can see myself coming back.
