I remember going to Honbo so many years ago when it was a small burger shop in Wanchai's Star Street district. The shop was cute and small and the burgers were great. Never would I have thought I'd see a branch in a mall. And a mall like Harbour City! The little burger shop has definitely come a long way. Boyfriend had never eaten there so as it was the middle of a busy Christmas shopping period, we decide to just eat here for dinner as all the other places had queues. The menu is in English only

The menu is in English only.  The staff also only speak English.  It goes to show how long I've eaten here. The menu has no expanded with a variety of burgers along with a chicken version and a vegan version. The soft shell crab version is now gone from the menu. They also have more sides to choose from. Originally they only offered fries. They also still do no offer milkshakes.

They now have a cuter logo that is found every where including the ketchup bottle.

Boyfriend had Mike's Lemonade ($38, on the left) and I had the Apple Pie Ice Tea ($38, on the right). The lemonade was really good. Very sharp and sweet at the same time. No silly mix of soda water like many places that offer lemonade. This is the lemonade I know and grew up with. I liked the Apple Pie Ice Tea the first time I got it and it seemed it hasn't changed. A good amount of cinnamon to please with bits of dried apple on top. Like literally drinking apple pie.

Boyfriend had The Gold Standard ($178). Two 4 oz patties, double cheese, pickles, onions, bacon, lettuce and house sauce. This was a beast and it had to be held together with a stick. The patty was very juicy and there was a lot of sauce. The cheese was nicely melted. The onions were raw so just be warned for those that don't like raw onions.

I had the Honbo ($98). Two 2 oz patties, cheese, pickles, onions, lettuce and house sauce. The beef patties were juicy and well done. The sauce had a slight tang and there was  a lot of it. The buns were soft and sweet.

We shared two sides. This is the Coleslaw ($32) as I am always curious about coleslaw. It's not the creamy type that I'm used to but it had a decent amount of acidity. The lettuce was fresh and crisp. Portion was enough to share.

The other side was Chili Fries ($78). Originally we wanted sweet potato fries but they had sold out that day. The chilli sauce is really spicy. They do not hold back on the heat. This surprised me as so many places in the city give you chilli fries but it's just bolognese sauce on top of fries. Here it really is chilli sauce. The cheddar was shredded on top and would have been better if it was melted. The fries were underneath and soaked up everything well. This was a really big portion and definitely enough to share. What was also surprising is they give you more chilli sauce than fries so this is a lot of meat.

Though a few changes and expanded menu from the original, the burgers are still very good. And that's what matters. Food also comes out quicky and staff is very friendly. A nice option for food in Harbour City.
