Some days you take a chance on a new Openrice listing and you find something pretty spectacular.As my original birthday lunch/cake date was all rained out, boyfriend and I looked for where to go for cake. Because I need to have cake on my birthday. Finding this to be new in the area we were in, we decided this to be my back up birthday cake plan. When we found the address, I was a bit wary. Entering in, it was mostly empty but someone nodded and said "Find your own spot". So, we did. The decor was hilarious. I'll show you pictures I took.
Yes, there was a hidden set of bombs.
Menu is in English and Chinese. They serve typical cafe food such as cakes, waffles along with hot food items. They have sets as well. Prices, I felt were a bit high for an upstairs cafe. You order and pay at the cashier and they will bring the food to you when ready. There is no 10% service charge.
As I wanted cake (it's my birthday after all!), we chose a cake set and another tea set to share.Blueberry Cheesecake ($52 for cake set). This was fairly decent. A creamy cheesecake that wasn't too heavy. The blueberry sauce on top was sweet and the crust was perfectly crumbly. I do not understand the weird squiggles of strawberry sauce on the plate but it appeared they tried to write the name of the cafe on the plate.
Hazelnut Latte ($46 but with set, $10). I ordered this as my set drink. It said that any drink under $36 is part of the set and anything over that you have to pay the difference. Oddly, no drink on the menu was under $36. Anyways ... this was really SUPER sweet. For coffee, this was an all fail as there was no coffee taste at all. Just tasted like sugar syrup.
Mini Linguine Bolognese ($54). This was the afternoon tea set we shared. It was actually pretty good. The linguine was actually al dente. The bolognese sauce was rich and fragrant. I could have wanted a bit more cheese but that is just me. Can never have enough cheese.
Mint Chocolate Smoothie ($48 but with cake set, $12). Boyfriend chose this as his set drink. It was a lot better than the coffee. Icey and cold, it had a strong chocolate taste but I really couldn't taste any mint in it. But pretty good anways.
A nice quiet upstairs cafe with actually decent food. Very relaxing and a nice place to chill if I'm in Mong Kok. I'll definitely return again.
