Discovered a whole in the wall restaurant serving very VERY inexpensive Thai. 粉紅水門雞 (English name: Chicken Rice in Pink) is a small restaurant located in the Ladies Market section of Tung Choi Street. The location is literally beside the elevator of a building with other restaurants. The interior is basic but fairly clean.Menu is in English and Chinese except for their seasonal items which is in Chinese only. There is no 10% service charge. They only offer three types of rice boxes: Hainan chicke

Menu is in English and Chinese except for their seasonal items which is in Chinese only. There is no 10% service charge. They only offer three types of rice boxes: Hainan chicken, curry and braised pork leg. They also offer only one type of dessert and one type of side dish. It's not a lot but too the point.
They don't serve water so we ordered drinks. They all come in a bottle. Boyfriend had the Iced Kumquat Honey ($12, on the left) and I had the Cold Brew White Peach Oolong ($8, on the right). For those that want something sweeter, the kumquat honey is perfect. Not too sweet as it's balanced by the refreshing citrus taste of kumquat. The cold brew is sugar free and it smelled like peaches.
Since it was our first time here, we decided to share the snacks as it wasn't expensive at all.
This is the Mango Sticky Rice ($18). It came with both white glutinous rice and purple glutinous rice. The mango was sweet but not as sweet as the sticky rice. Gooey and good with a generous dose of coconut cream.
The other snack is the Papaya Salad ($12). Very spicy but yet fresh. The salad was still crisp and not soggy. This was one of the better fast food style papaya salads we've had.
I had the Signature Hainanese Chicken Rice ($36). The amount of chicken wasn't a lot but it was really good. Wonderfully flavored, moist and tender. The skin also wasn't too fat. The rice was very well flavored and not too oily. It was cooked with bay leaves, roasted garlic, lemongrass and shallots. All still remaining in the rice. Portion of rice was a lot so you really do leave full.
It came with a dipping sauce which was super spicy but so good. It was layered with heat, sweet and sour. It went well with the chicken.
Boyfriend tried something from their seasonal menu: Grandma's Old Style Beef Curry Lo Mein ($42). The noodles were still springy. But the star was the curry. Exceptionally spicy but layered. You can taste the various herbs used to create this. The beef was melt in your mouth. It came with wonderfully soft potatoes and a soft boiled egg.
Prices not expensive. Even if you don't order the sides, you still get a very filling meal with a drink for under $50. Food was delicious and came out quickly. No wonder it was busy even after lunch time when we rolled out of there.
