A friend of mine was visiting from Korea and was really in the mood for Thai. After wandering the South Temple street market for a bit our stomachs started calling. I had noticed this place when walking through the food plaza earlier and we decided to give it a try. Wow. I've tried quite a few Thai places in HK (mostly in CWB and Kowloon Tong), and this one takes the pad thai. (Ok, failed joke
)

We weren't that hungry so kept it simple: "stir fried baby cabbage w/ salted fish" and "spicy stir fried basil noodles w/ beef".

The cabbage was perfectly done - it was still crunchy so we felt confident the nutrients weren't sapped away from being overcooked. The salted fish was added in a tasteful amount and gave just the right amount of additional zing. (Some places I've been to load up the salted fish and you find yourself unwillingly eating a giant morsel that was hidden among the leaves - an unfortunate waste of a mouthful of greens).

The spicy noodles were actually... spicy. (This coming from a guailo who can handle his spice better than many of his Korean, Malay, and Indian friends). My friend and I, both spice handlers, were sniffing now and then. The great thing is, there was just enough spice to make you feel it, but it was just that - a spice, not a flavor. It didn't take anything away from the overall dish and definitely added layers to it The beef was perfectly done and moist. The whole dish wasn't overly greasy either - we were impressed!

The service was great. While we did have to wait for our noodles a bit longer than our cabbage, there was clearly a big table that was settled before we were. There was a woman (another guailo) dining by herself at the table behind us and when they brought out her food the waitress apologized profusely for it taking so long (and it really wasn't all that long, and the other woman graciously thanked them and was not phased in the least). The staff did a good job of making the rounds with water as well. At first my friend and I were only given forks and spoons - a nice consideration for perhaps the less-skilled guailo, but we are chopstick kids, so after a request they promptly brought out our four pointy sticks.

All in all, I'm definitely going back and recommending to others! The one oddity was the water had a bit of a taste... like a bit of Horlick's was mixed in (and I mean a BIT). It was a bit strange at first, but honestly, I didn't notice it once I started eating the food.

Great for a night out in Jordan!
