Somehow, Prince Edward gets all of the good bakery options. I used to go to Ueno Bakery a few minutes away on Nathan Road until I found that 85C had opened across from Pioneer Centre. For those that don't know 85C, it's a large coffee chain in Taiwan which first became famous for providing good quality coffee and cake at low prices. We try a few different bread each time and so far, none have disappointed:
Hokkaido Dome - Available in other places in Hong Kong. Not too sweet with reasonably dense bread (a lot of places have domes that are too fluffy and empty). Decent.
Whole Wheat Toast - For some reason, most bakeries in HK use margarine (probably to save costs). 85C uses butter and the taste is much much better than other bakeries. The bread was fluffy but not chewy and didn't leave an aftertaste. Probably on-par with Little Mermaid, but only half the price.
Cream-filled french horn bread - While the horn bread is bland like a thin-crust baguette, the sweet and smooth cream and sugar crystals create a perfect mix of textures and flavors. It's a bit messy to eat, so be careful if you're trying to maintain an image
There are also a few tables in the back corner if you want to get a drink and have a cake. Haven't tried that yet but will soon!
